Yeah , it’s simply due to the fact that beauty products are one of the first expenses dropped when funds get low. Rihana ain’t dropped in over a decade and her fame level is still at an all time high, just check out her IG. Her not dropping music has nothing to do with it.

I've invested across a number of beauty products (part of my work) and we generally consider the sector to be non-cyclical. People will sacrifice a ton of things in their life, but people are generally vain and will not compromise on their looks.
However, as someone already mentioned, Fenty's problem is its target audience is firmly middle class. And that consumer will certainly trade down during periods of tightness.
Said differently, a Fenty customer has no problem picking up that generic concealer. And this is simply not the case for the Chanel or Dior customer.
That is NOT expensive. I gave away Fenty gloss as a stocking stuffer for years. Chanel is $40-50, that's private stock.
