At the label.
None of us ever even thought that. I never heard anybody outside saying that either. Only people I ever heard speaking on that, were people online who have a history of not liking dude. Plus, the flow they claim he stole from Chris, he was using during the Dynasty sessions. Which was way before Chris and Neef even came around. Ab Liva, Dutch and Spade were the first people I ever heard using that. Definitely wasn't Chris or anyone on Roc.
But yeah, Jay was doing that in freestyles and on Clue tapes before anyone even met Chris. So it's just another one of those things that caught fire online and people ran with it. Which is why, even when Chris was beefing with Jay and had issues with him, he still said that it wasn't true because he knows. He didn't get that from Chris. That was a flow that a lot of people were using around '98-'00. That's why Bleek said everybody just was influenced by each other. Because at that time, there were a million different flows going on and most MC's would just go with whatever worked for them. But it's like Chris said, Jay was already doing that by the time he got to the label.
Truth be told, he got that from street dudes that used to be around who rapped, before Chris even came to the label. That's all Dutch and Spade. Most people just don’t know who they are, so they speak about Chris. They had a crew of dudes who used to rap and would have mad different styles. They idolized Jay and they were supposed to sign to Roc, but they ended up signing with Un. This was '98. Dutch and Spade were always around because Jay really wanted to sign them and loved those dudes. That was a flow they used to use in the cyphers we used to always have at the office. There was no Young Chris at the time. That's a Philly street thing, but it comes from Dutch and Spade, not Chris.
Jay's idea was to have these dudes be a part of the Dynasty, but they decided to sign elsewhere.
