Quick side note it’s crazy how when I was younger Jay being able to take a dudes flow as his own was looked at as him being talented and now it’s a bad thing.

The only reason it was so notable with Young Chris was Jay took it on as his main flow for years, but lowkey Young Chris Flow is top tier. I was listening to his album with Dave East and I still don’t know how he didn’t blow up as an artist.

I agree 100%. It used to be considered one of his best skills.

In the past couple of years internet music culture and a lot of Gen-Z has turned on Jay to some degree, and IMHO his most die hard fanbase gets kind of defensive and super protective about his legacy.

Lol no one at the Rc spoke about this? Their A&R talks about it. I'm genuinely stunned that anyone has ever tried to deny it. I thought that almost all Hov fans just embraced it. it led to many of Jay's best verses. IMO Chris gives political answers when asked about it, and the hardest denouncement I've ever seen was Chris on Bleek's podcast talking about it, but even then he seemed more frustrated people keep talking about moreso than him spending a lot of time denying that it's true.

I dunno bro. I feel like everyone that listens to State Prop and Jay both realize that Jay borrowed a lot of Chris. I'm not even calling it biting. They were all around each other, and artists inspire artists. But to deny that Jay was rapping one way before he signed Chris and Stet Prop, and then rapping another way after he signed Chris and State Prop, is )with all due respect) a bit disingenuous.

Like, Jay had a deep bag and a lot of flows until he signed them, but after he signed them his bag got deeper and there's a lot of songs with Chris' cadences and pockets

At the label.

None of us ever even thought that. I never heard anybody outside saying that either. Only people I ever heard speaking on that, were people online who have a history of not liking dude. Plus, the flow they claim he stole from Chris, he was using during the Dynasty sessions. Which was way before Chris and Neef even came around. Ab Liva, Dutch and Spade were the first people I ever heard using that. Definitely wasn't Chris or anyone on Roc.

But yeah, Jay was doing that in freestyles and on Clue tapes before anyone even met Chris. So it's just another one of those things that caught fire online and people ran with it. Which is why, even when Chris was beefing with Jay and had issues with him, he still said that it wasn't true because he knows. He didn't get that from Chris. That was a flow that a lot of people were using around '98-'00. That's why Bleek said everybody just was influenced by each other. Because at that time, there were a million different flows going on and most MC's would just go with whatever worked for them. But it's like Chris said, Jay was already doing that by the time he got to the label.

Truth be told, he got that from street dudes that used to be around who rapped, before Chris even came to the label. That's all Dutch and Spade. Most people just don’t know who they are, so they speak about Chris. They had a crew of dudes who used to rap and would have mad different styles. They idolized Jay and they were supposed to sign to Roc, but they ended up signing with Un. This was '98. Dutch and Spade were always around because Jay really wanted to sign them and loved those dudes. That was a flow they used to use in the cyphers we used to always have at the office. There was no Young Chris at the time. That's a Philly street thing, but it comes from Dutch and Spade, not Chris.

Jay's idea was to have these dudes be a part of the Dynasty, but they decided to sign elsewhere.

Jay was getting clowned for stealing Chris' flow since BP2 came out. It's not a new thing.

Okay, so Jay and Chris both kind of got that flow from Dutch and Spade?

My overall point was that Jay borrowed it / was inspired by other artists.

Good breakdown of history, thank you

Chris has been denying this for 20 years, lol.

Beans did too.

Weirdos online who hate Jay started that bullsh*t. And Chris said all that f*cked his career up because now people don’t take him seriously as standing on his own. He hates that people say that. I can say from experience, that nobody on Roc during that time even thought or spoke about any of this. It's just more sh*t that grew legs online and wasn't true.
Breh Jay been doing this from Sharking Camp Lo to Sauce to Chris even Mac Hommy when he was recording with Jay Elec as has been confirmed recently

Jay likes to take heavy inspiration from other rappers

weirdos didn't make shyt up. you have to be in denial if you don't remember the whisper flow era. people saying that flow comes from Philly doesn't change anything. Jay is a shark

I just explained how he didn't take anything from Chris, and how he was doing that flow way before even knowing Chris.

The Camp Lo claim was weird too. Dude in the group who didn't like Jay said that and the bums online ran with it. Ski already said that was bullsh*t. Nobody can ever say what he took from them. He rapped nothing like Cheeba or Suede. It just seems like people just want to say he took from whoever had the same producers as he did. The people that Jay has been inspired by, aren't any of the people the casuals have been speaking about. So yeah, the weirdos and haters are making it up.

And they just don’t have enough knowledge to really know who he's been around. Just throwing random names out there doesn't make it factual, bro. The whisper sh*t didn't come from anybody the losers claim it did. Like I said, that comes from D&S. Not anybody that was on Roc. Dude is one of the GOAT's. He didn't get there by biting, lol.

Lol @ camp lo "claim" being "weird" listen to the original feeling it and pretend otherwise. You keep trying to say this shyt is gossip brother I didn't get that from gossip. Do you have fukking ears?! :laff:

you claimed are baseless. Regardless doesn't make them fact and it would not change anything if he took it from Dutch and Spade instead of Chris. The point was he's a shark. Everyone that was around in that era knows Jay wasn't flowing like that in 98. He was flowing like that when Chris was around tho...so we can all trust our judgment on what we heard and saw not what you claim. Don't ever stan a rapper so hard you become delusional. Jay is a GOAT AND A HUGE BITER

But the whisper flow wasn't super original, which was the point. Whether it came from Chris, or Dutch and Spade, or whoever. It's not even a knock in my eyes. I thought it was dope that Jay could take a style that (let's be real) most people in the world would never hear and cherish if it were coming from someone else, and make sure he owned it and made the best out of it.

Jay was always doing little line grabs from Big and homages to rappers that he liked. All the greatest artists borrow and steal ideas from each other. I don't understand why some folks feel so defensive about this.

Jay's one of the 3 best rappers to ever do it, no matter how you slice it, and he's arguably the GOAT. Him borrowing a Philly slow not only doesn't take away from his legacy, it adds to it, because we never would've got his early 00's bars and flows without it,

Dude, again, "Feelin' It" wasn't even a Camp Lo song! LOL!

That was a Ski song. He gave the song to Jay because he asked for it, and then Jay told Ski he would rap in the same style that HE was rapping on the song to be in line with the beat. That's the OG "Feelin' It". So all this Camp Lo sh*t is literally a story that isn't true. These are my OG's. Ski was recording his solo album and Jay wanted the beat. He gave Ski some bread for it and they redid the record for RD. Ski has told this story a million times. None of it has anything to do with Camp Lo. The flow he was using on the record was the one Ski used when he was rapping on the beat. Jay told him he would do the same for his own record on it.

Literally has absolutely nothing to do with Camp Lo. This is why you need to check on your facts before saying whatever.

My man you a delusional stan. I said he stole the flow. I know it's a Ski song but that's not ski flow ..you acting slow. .there's no debate. Listen to the song. Jay copied the whole thing. You can't explain and spin nothing. He been doing that shyt. You being ridiculous and obtuse right now. If you get on a song AFTER another rapper and use HIS SIGNATURE FLOW YOU ARE BITING.

You said he "stole" from Camp Lo, and they don’t have anything to do with it. You were ready to die on the damn Camp Lo hill. LOL!!

I told you where it was from. You still kept speaking on Camp Lo. He made a song with the dude who produced and rapped on the OG record and used the flow that the same producer had on it with his permission and worked with him on the actual record. Which is what MC's do all day. But when Jay does it, it's "stealing", lol. You typed all that gossip sh*t about him stealing from a group that had nothing to do with any of this process. I told you were wrong. Showed you the actual person speaking on it. And now you're mad.

Stop it, bro.

Jay can shut everyone up and just drop a dope album to reinforce his catalog

He doesn't seem keen on doing that tho
First sign we’ll get he is going to make a good album is he’ll get a haircut down to a Caesar. Seriously the fact this thread is about Jay is crazy cause this was a dope album.

Why hasn’t this dropped officially yet?
