Murs and Macklemore are two different enitities. Murs has had some commercial success for a regional guy with very esoteric music. Furthermore he makes a healthy buck touring.

so youre saying that a black Eminem would've outsold dmx, jay-z, nas, cash money, etc etc?

f*ck off.

black Eminem is just another cypher rapper.

That's the point Eminem was trying to make.

You're taking "I would've sold half" out of context and making it too literal.

It served the purpose of what he was trying to say and it rhymed.

its backhanded.

I said whenever he addressed it, it was either vague OR backhanded.

that chit you quoted was backhanded. "if I was black, I would've sold half"?

so hes saying that he wouldve still been outselling everybody except nelly and maybe dmx?? f**k outta here Em. if you was black, you wouldn't have sold chit.
I was thinking the same thing reading that, if he was black he wouldn't even be known

macklemore was the definition of a random underground rapper for over 10 years. That's exactly who he should be compared to. I respect Mack's hustle and honesty though, but someone like Murs who's been busting his ass for years and makes somewhat mainstream appealing music will never blow like Macklamore.

I get what you're saying about Murs, but I wasn't speaking on a specific person, I was responding to the blanket statement "black underground rappers" and Macklemore can't be compared because it's such a wide ranging group of artists. I compare Mack to Nelly, Luda or Drake simply because most underground rappers that don't make it mainstream stay underground for a reason, because they don't wanna be a Nelly, Luda or Drake and that's their choice but this dude made that type of album, PLUS he's white, wasn't hard to predict the outcome.

All I was saying is that why Mac Miller has more buzz and sells more records than Curren$y is a much better discussion.

At least he acknowledged it. That's more than most would do. Hopefully he'll bring more attention to the issue. I don't think Em ever addressed it, for example, even though it was a clear factor in his success.

For those complaining...I remember back in the day when I'd hand wring over the radio only playing songs with negative or superfluous messages. Macklemore got a #1 hit with a song about buying used clothes, b. I can respect that, even if I'm no longer a backpacker.

True, but Kendrick would probably not move a million if he was white.

In rap, I feel certain white people have a privilege (him and Eminem) other are overlooked.
Some black people are privileged (you can't talk street shyt and be a white rapper, but even the softest of black rappers can talk street shyt and get away with) and other not.

Ya its all about finding a niche.. & race definitely plays into that
