The biggest difference between Aaliyah and Beyonce is One In A Million (entire album). IMO, none of Beyonce's albums are anywhere is good. Beyonce has some dope songs, but her albums are kind of disposable. They don't have longevity.

Beyonce was going to blow up inevitably because it was always clear that she was the most charismatic out of Destiny's Child. Beyonce's star power was obvious regardless of what the music sounded like.

People tend to think Aaliyah's acclaim came after her death. Well, here's what critics had to say about her last album before she died:

"Aaliyah is Control, Velvet Rope and Jagged Little Pill all rolled into one. It's the album Janet should have made with All for You, the manifesto that Beyonce thought she was penning with Survivor."

^^^ That came from a Rollingstone review of Aaliyah's Aaliyah. I just thought it was interesting especially that there were already comparisons drawn between Beyonce and Aaliyah even then.

it is short if you have 6 years between albums... she was no a prolific musician and was too preoccupied with other stuff.

Look at how many albums Beyonce released in the same amount of time..
4 in 9 years for B.
But Beyonce is a harder worker.

Aaliyah was an average album. :manny:

Rapture stewart and eric seats gave her some weak throwaway beats.

sure there was some dope cuts, but her death and nostalgia are getting in the way of everyone.

I'd hope that Static and her would've come out with better songs

Beyonce used to write dope sh1t, then she went the euro pop dance rihanna route for the fame since dealing with Jigga her star status went down. The old B could see Aaliyah toe for toe.

but over all Aaliyah got B, ........ B got classics though 'me, myself & I' and 'So good' are my personal favorites but they still aint seeing Aaliyah 'miss you' or 'hot like fire' and etc.

both way too beautiful for mortal eyes :wow:

I honestly don't know, I don't check for B that much actually, but one thing I do know is that back then EVERYBODY was listening to Aaliyah, Beyonce gives me the impression she's more of a pop superstar, Aaliyah was straight hip-hop, except she was singing...but again, I don't really check for B like that (which proobably means something)

And while nostalgia obviously clouds some of our judgement, let's not act as if she wasn't killing it BEFORE dying, people here comparing her to Ciara and them :stopitslime: back then only solo concureence in that lane was Brandy and Monica, and IMO Aaliyah was bigger/better than both. (Damn whatever happened to Monica tho :to:)

RIP Baby Girl and I'm with X on this one, :pacspit: @ :heh:

Nah, Destinys child were dropping Diamond albums when Aaliyah was alive and it was practically Beyonce ft Kelly and weed carriers. So she would've been as big cause 1 they are not in the same lane 2 Beyonce was already big.

Beyoncé is a better singer/performer/bigger star by far, but I like Aaliyah better. To me, she has a better catalog because she made dope music. My view is biased though I like chill laid back music more than pop. I have never been a fan of music that's made with the intention of the crossing over to the pop/euro charts. I like when music is good enough to cross over on its own merit. If I don't make a dime off of record sales so I don't care about that, but I do realize that money is the motivation in music, so I salute Bey for getting that money.

As far as movies go, Aaliyah was about to make it big. I think she was only going to get better and was getting good looks in non urban movies. It's a damn shame that she hadn't even hit her prime yet.

Aaliyah did her thing, and definitely desreves the praise she gets as an artist, but objectively thinking...Beyonce is better. In almost every category. I love Aaliyah, but she's starting to become R&B's version of Big L: A great artist who undeservedly is put with the immortals because of her death.
