Both are talented. One came up in the 90s the other in 2000s.

Beyonce is the stronger vocally; however, Aaliyah made the better music, also vocally she was very good and at 22 could have improved so overall I would give Aaliyah the edge.

Mannnnnnn... I forgot how comical this thread was... :heh: All the things we learned, like that the Aaliyah/R. kelly marriage was the only reason Brandy and Monica had hit records, and how "Back & Forth" was "adult contemporary R&B"... man oh man. :russ: classic.

Homeboy Runny-Ray you my guy dawg. I enjoy reading your posts. You have a grand knowledge on present and past r&b but it boggles me that you are fighting to the ends for Beyonce.

To make this clear,

Beyonce is no longer R&B/Soul. She is full pop. Compare her to Gaga or Madonna, and even against them she can't win.

Beyonce is the most popular current black female entertainer of all time, which is not saying much because there are not a lot of black female entertainers out now compared to previous decades. Their is no competion and no one to compare her too. She can easily take the title and run with it, just like
Jay-Z, Wayne or Ye can say that they are the best rapper of all time.

I honestly do not have any albums of hers, maybe a song or two.

I have an aaliyah album though.

Aaliyah should be compared to brandy and monica.

I would say Aaliyah has an edge between the two because her popularity did not die entering the 2000's like theirs did.
You can't compare Beyonce to Diana Ross?

@***********

my man, I don't care about beyonce. i'll take a '90s aaliyah record over hers any day. but i hate revisionists. i hate em.

lol @ whoever said that aaliyah's popularity didn't die entering the 2000s. where were yall when that 3rd album dropped? that chit made no noise until she died.

meanwhile, monica is still making popular records amongst actual r&b listeners whenever she drops an album. getting love from the current young radio listeners and the adult radio listeners. both crowds. not just people that remember liking timbaland beats back in middle school or kids that weren't around at all but just see how souped-up they made aalyiah's legacy and take the bait.
