That's when B was in her prime. :takedat:

yea, beyonce was goat status with the looks back then.

they gas her to the moon now but she fell off.

someone should make a thread about missy's ghostwriting skills
everytime i hear one minute man i :to:at the thought of aaliyah signing it
missy sings better than aaliyah tho.

you mean r.kelly, timbaland & missy made good music.

aalyiah was chit vocally.

Beyonce does not write and produce her music either though; neither does Brandy, Monica, or even Mary J. Blige. Faith Evans is one of the few R&B singers from that era that did write. Maybe they and Aaliyah made better music because they just had a better ear and didn't chase after the next hit record. Aaliyah linking up with R.Kelly was luck she had the connection through her uncle; however, her hooking up Timbo & Missy was good judgement, as they were unknown then; so if anything they needed her more than she needed them. Aaliyah had achieved enough on her first album to have sort other producers.

Also people are going on about vocal ability a bit too much in this thread yes Beyonce is better but Aaliyah's level was high enough for the music she was making; I have never heard anyone seriously argue that her music suffered from poor vocals. Anyway, the difference in vocal ability only tends to become apparent in live performances when singing ballads. These type of artist's are selling millions of records most of those fans will never hear them perform live.

Look at Rhianna is she great singer? No. but that does not matter at least not for the type music she is making.

the difference is, all those artists you mentioned can actually sing and actually perform.

timbo, missy & them didn't need aalyiah. theres a bunch of better young vocalists they could've gave those beats & verses to. they benefitted a little from aalyiah being already established and more importantly, im sure hankerson & co were more willing to throw money behind them after they saved his niece's career.

the timbo & missy connection was thru her uncle dog. they were all signed to his label after devante went awol. she didnt put them on. you acting like she was queen chit, picking producers at will, when in reality, people thought she was done without kelz. if swing mob didn't come thru, she prolly would've been hanging around the so so def offices more like she was doing earlier in the year.

missy was already buzzing heavy for her ghost-writing & guest spots before the aalyiah album even blew up. not to mention that ginuwine album dropped at the same time and overshadowed aaliyah chit, especially before the "one in a million" single dropped.

you act like aalyiah dumbed down her vocals for her tracks. in reality, the tracks were catered towards her. whenever aaliyah stepped out of her comfort zone vocally, it wasn't a good look. whether it be live or on wax. you don't necessarily have to perform live in order to be exposed as a shabby singer. lol. some of the better frauds do, but aalyiah's limitations were obvious on wax b.

Rihanna is not an r&b artist.

^^^ I think you underrate Aaliyah's singing ability somewhat. Anyway, the Timbo, Missy & Aaliyah working relationship benefited them all I am not sure how you can argue that Aaliyah benefited more than they did especially as she was already hot and popin'. Aaliyah's success provided Missy with a platform to drop with Timbo's sound again the following year with her debut release in 1997. Can you imagine if she dropped in 1996 before Aaliyah? She would have flopped just like she did a year or so before with her failed group Sista' Remember them? So yes in way she did put them on her suaveness and her swag help introduce Timbo's sound to the world.

Why do you think both Timbo and Missy are so eternally grateful? because if they never worked with Aaliyah their careers just wouldn't be the same and do know what they'd both be first to admit that.

And the point about Rihanna stands R&B artist or not she hasn't got a great voice but that does not matter to section of market she's going after. Adele does possess a good voice; thats her whole appeal. With Aaliyah its a combination of image, voice and music and while she was no Faith or Bey vocally she didn't need to be.

Personally, I prefer Aaliyah's music.

Beyonce is just too fukking plastic some times.Beyonce is glam while Aaliyah's music comes off down to earth..sexy..cool.

Beyonce is a better vocalist, though. And I say that believing Beyonce is a overrated vocalist. She probably wouldn't even make the top 10 of the last 20 years...maybe not even top 15.She's not even fukking with Tracey Spencer, let alone Deborah Cox.

Bey is a manufactured/watered down female version of Michael Jackson.

You ain't chilling with your crew, relaxing, sipping that erk & jerk, and playing dominoes with no Beyonce in the background....Mary J Blige maybe, but not Bey.

youre blatantly ignoring the fact that ginuwine blew up out the gate and his album dropped right after aalyiah's and he was bigger.

youre blatantly ignoring the fact that PONY was a much bigger single than "if your girl only knew"

youre ignoring the fact that aalyiah wasn't really poppin before this album. people looked at her as an r.kelly creation. and she was getting booed at the soul train awards.

youre ignoring the fact that missy was already poppin on the writing tip and had already started appearing on the tracks as well. one example, being 702's "steelo" which was also hotter than aalyiah's single at the time. and I don't recall missy having a guest verse on any aaliyah single neither so what are you really trying to say b? nobody knew missy as a rapper from any dam aalyiah singles.

why did missy have to drop in '96? why couldn't she just drop in '97 like she actually did in real life? youre trying to move the goal posts

both sides benefitted from each other. yes. but acting like aalyiah blew them up and did them a big favor is laughs.

and no offense but I don't care about these non-r&b singers dog. we talking r&b here. stick to the script.
