What mainstream artist are creating R&B like this?
Weeknd started off like this, chris brown, trey songz, bryson tiller, even usher had some joints in this vein, august alsina, ty dolla, PND, brent faiyaz...these brehs are in various phases of (no longer) being mainstream, but that speaks to basically there being no mainstream male r&b singers RN unless you count bruno, weeknd, and khalid

I’m the one?

point me into the direction of dope ass Mainstream R&B that has dropped recently

What mainstream artist are creating R&B like this?
Not sure how to respond since you shoot every example down as being underground lol. This thread kinda overlaps with that recent "modern r&b is ass" thread and I don't think you can specifically single out male singers. The genre as a whole has been under siege. I can't remember what interview it was but the person was talking about the lack of R&B formatted stations being part of the problem.

Ant Clemons
Brent Faiyaz
Lucky Daye
Ty Dolla Sign
Masego
Bryson Tiller
Chris Brown
Buddy
Anderson Paak
Jeremih

nah, both genres getting shallowed up by EDM and pop sounds is why things are the way they are.
This can't be overstated. Now that you mention it I do remember that happening. Late 2000s. Usher, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown...they all pivoted to that EDM shyt. Cats was out here screaming, "♥️OMG♥️ " :dame: in their hooks. Definitely agree r&b took a massive hit when the EDM infection occurred and I'm not sure it recovered.

Remember back in the 90s there was a clear distinction between the R&B crowd and the hip hop crowd.

R&B dudes weren't on that gangsta shyt

Now you can't tell anyone apart
I don't know that it's ever swung this far but r&b has kinda projected this sort of bravado for a minute. Force MDs, Heavy D and the Boyz, Ja Rule, Nelly..it's nothing new to see brothers blending the two genres. Can't put this all on Drake and Future. Even the "pure" singers like Jodeci, Keith Sweat, Guy...it's not like they were effeminate or corny. shyt even groups from the 70s like the Ojays looked like they could finish a set and come beat your ass afterward.

That terrible Brent Fiayaz album is the only Male R&B album that made any type of noise this year

You had Steve Lacy come out of nowhere with a big song

Weeknd (not really R&B and he’s an old artist) flopped

Chris brown flopped

BLXST flopped

Giveon flopped

That’s about it.

This shyt is over. No one wants to hear males singing anymore

The genre is definitely down bad right now.

The problem is R&B singers trying to go for the toxic image or look hard. It don't match up. At that point might as well start rapping.

Folks will rock with you if you're a great singer and got a clean image. That's 100% the key for the lane.

Anderson Paak is the closest to pulling it off but the music is a little too experimental. If dude went full-on love songs he'd be a superstar imo.

Look at his counterpart Bruno Mars. Outside of being musically talented, it's his clean image that makes the music authentic.

R&B is timeless music. It's their image is what's off-putting the viewer imo. The deception is people thinking they'll look too soft, but you're basically going against the innate aspect of R&B by going the opposite direction.

Only been a very few amount of successful toxic R&B singers when you really look at it and the mass majority of the ones who are don't have much staying power. Almost every enormously successful singer got somewhat a clean image: Drake, Bruno Mars, Usher, T-Pain, Chris Brown (before controversy dud was going to be a super star), etc.

Who is trying to look at and act hard?

The problem is that there’s no mainstream market for male singers anymore.

There's less of a market but I think Bruno Mars's, Anderson Paak, Steve Lacy's, etc. success show there's still a big desire for it.

It's cats like Brent Faiyaz, Bryson Tiller, Giveon, etc. trying to hit the toxic lane that's flopping imo. They ain't going to out-toxic Future.

They might not be getting played on the radio (that's a whole discussion in it self, same for quality rap), but there is good male R&B music out. It's just not getting played on the radio.

Tiller and Giveon aren’t toxic

Silk Sonic came out in 2021 and that on the strength of Bruno tbh

This thread is about mainstream. No one has heard most of the names you posted

DVSN was able to get everyone’s attention and dropped some trash
