Honestly if there’s a nikka that can dance and sing his ass off I think they would do well in this climate. There needs to be an Usher and Chris Brown successor. The entertainer aspect needs to comeback to the genre. Especially since women love nikkaz that can dance. Plus that will bring it back to the mainstream because people love dances and dance moves plus it gets the youth more engaged to the music especially with TikTok killing shyt. The R&B nikkaz today are boring as shyt and have no identity and all sing the same shyt.

All these R&B nikkaz trying to act like rappers is what’s killing the genre.

Its a shame that a non black mf named Peter Gene Hernández is carrying the fukking genre by himself. His last album with Anderson Paak is the best R&B album I've heard top to bottom since prolly D'Angelos Black Messiah project. All this nikka doing is taking the art from black legends and copying the style and he winning fukking grammys with our natural musical formulas. Whereas we still tryna blur the line between rap/hiphop and r&b.

I wish I could pursue a music career. Not saying id be world famous but I know if given the opportunity, I could make a name for myself and do this shyt better then 90% of these mfs out right now. It's a cheat code when you can write, musically compose and sing your own shyt.

@Hathaway what are all the steps one would need to take to pursue a musical career? I've thought about doing it.

nikkas too cool to really sing like that these days. nikkas can't bring themselves to scrunch up they face and hit them soulful notes no more. :manny:

I just thank God I can fall back on classic R&B from the late 70's to the early 90's. The genre been dead since then.
I'm not an oldhead but like @Pop123 said the new r&b singers sounds too much like hip hop and rap. So I still only listen to the old stuff.

Look who are considered the at the top still Beyonce, Chris Brown and Usher. They’re R&B artists and Entertainers. nikkaz kind of stopped dancing once Chris brown came on the scene for R&B. All the biggest acts in R&B had dancing in them. You’d be surprised how much it would help out this dry ass climate. I’m not saying just any dancing obviously they would need to be more modernized with the dance moves.

SZA and summer walker don’t dance.

I just don’t think the audience is there nor the support from the labels

Sza and Summer Walker are women. Their fanbase is majority women and there music is relatable to them. Women are the highest consumers for music and the males doing it ain’t really speaking to them anymore. The formula ain’t changed You got good vocals, in shape, dance and have sex appeal you”ll be charging women 1000 dollars to take a photo with you. Who are the ginuwine’s, ushers, Chris browns and bobby browns of today. Or has the potential to be. I feel like all these new nikkaz are the weeknds sons.

I couldn't tell you for sure. All I know is building a fan base by pushing your music through various social media outlets and paying for advertising.

Vast majority of r&b guys don't belt, stay in the same low pocket or high falsetto that won't expose how limited their voice is. Very basic runs etc etc... way too much will have a melodic rapping style and just sing the hook. Lucky Daye has got a great voice and he does it better than most but it's tired.

But I also feel like the labels want these songs and projects produced a certain way and that really kills the musicality That I'm sure some of the artists are capable of giving.

Going a bit off topic, cause I'm referencing yebba a female r&b poppy artist. It's astonishing how much better her live renditions of her songs off her latest album are. Seriously Her tiny desk performance blows the album cuts out of the water.
