she can do what she wants technically, big he’s still signed to Nike and probably would have been for life had the accident not happened. They own the trademarks/logos and obviously the show designs are theirs. She doesn’t control that aspect of his likeness, along with having control over his NBA likeness.
But the Mamba stuff is hers and the academy partners probably offered her a trash deal, plus she had no idea what their plans were moving forward. It’s not like she was even involved (with the academy) while Kobe was around. He probably sank a few bucks into the place and gave it some notoriety (which is why we know about it) and the partners ran the place day to day.
Kobe simply went the extra mile but helping out and coaching. He didn’t have to do any of that.
Legally, the estate is getting their ducks in a row instead of letting whoever do whatever with his image. It’s one thing to have a bunch of artists to murals all over the place but it’s another when his creation is being licensed. Estate is doing what they have to do in this instance.
