I've had similar experiences on dating sites. They put up older pictures when they were more in shape or headshots. I have been just too weak to say "no thanks, not interested". Some of their personalities are really cool too. Intelligent women. But it manifested very negatively with me feeling embarrassed to be out with them. And that was fukked up of me. Haven't done the dating site bs in years. Did meet some quality people for sure, but it's too much nonsense. Rather just meet in person.
