I’m not saying anyone needs to change their mind. Like what you like. But just to understand the problems in story construction is makes a strong point to understanding

But this video is probably the best breakdown of the writing problems I’ve seen. It’s long so I put the time stamps in. But it’s worth it.

The problems with the destruction of Krypton is stuff even I didn’t think about

00:00:00 - Intro: 00:02:22 -
Into The Snyderverse: The DCEU Origin Story
00:07:02 - Rewriting History: The Destruction of Krypton and Superman’s Mythos
00:21:10 - Meet The Kents: Superman’s Character and Family Matters
00:38:46 - Unintelligent Design: General Zod’s Not-So-Master Plan
00:59:07 - Mindless Destruction: Collateral Character Assassination
01:28:49 - Ground Zero: The Final Showdown at Rock Bottom.

:ehh:I’ll watch later

The constant need to compare this movie to the new 'Superman' movie is weird. Nobody ever compared the Nolan Batman movies to 'Batman' with Keaton. They are entirely different iterations of the character.

It's because people treat everything like they treat politics, always have to pick a side :mjlol:

'Man of Steel' was really good but it ain't anything like the new 'Superman' which is also good.

Honestly i think this is unnecessary too, but i actually blame james Gunn. not the fans.
It wouldn't have been that hard to simply make the new superman movie a sequel to Man of Steel.
You just keep the original cast. and say lex luther made up the accusations that his parents were bad.
A reboot wasn't even nessasary, nothing else contradicts anything that came before. And franchises have had tonal shifts before. Thor 1 isn't anything like Ragnorok.
I get he doesn't want the constraints of previously established continuity. but most of the stories that came before were just origin stories anyway. Origins he doesn't plan on rehashing anyway.

What? :dahell: Breh the old WB executives ruined the entire franchise by not letting Snyder cook. There was no way that Gunn could continue with it. It was over.

Had nothing to do with Gunn because he was hired to come in and do a reboot

They weren't even that deep into their universe. Man of steel is just an origin story that they didn't plan to rehash anyway,
Wonder women 1 is a origin story that they probably aren't rehashing either
Aquaman is a origin story they aren't planning to rehash. They could have did reshoots for the sequel, if they wanted
Justice league was the origin of the team which they also skipped over.
Other projects like Black Adam, Shazaam they could just forget about.
A Soft reboot would have worked imo. They did that already with suicide squad and peacemaker.

I have seen people starting to rate this film very highly now, but when it first came out the consensus was it was mid but maybe something to build off of.

I rewatched this and the editing and plot for the first hour or so is all over the place. Action was top notch and probably the best representation of super powered beings fighting. However Superman letting thousands of people die, even smugly jumping over a gas tanker as it smashes into a building - nah I can’t rock with that. We go from Krypton to an already adult Superman interspersed with small flashbacks of a young Clark Kent but gives us very little characterization. Lois Lane shows up out of nowhere and we go from hobo Superman to blue suit in very few scenes. Overall the color palette is more like a horror film than a superhero film. I guarantee no little kid wanted to be Superman in 2013. He spends the entire film being scary and imposing to those around him.

It’s a mid movie made worse by poor characterization of Superman that could’ve been good with some slight tweaks and a less dour script. So outside of the action cinematography being goat what am I missing here coli brehs?
I didn’t even know this one existed, gonna see if I can bong hit up to it right now

Nah, it's the equivalent of a new GM taking over a team and feeling like they have to keep a middling team together just because. The old universe was tainted.
