So Kiku is more of a mystery than the other vampires. She doesn't know her past, but we can see she is nothing but trouble. Kyoko even suggested the number of people she turned could be well above what Hatsuka has suggested. It makes sense Kiku doesn't know of her past, but the fact Kyoko can't dig that up is the more concerning thing.

This volume was a teller for both Mahiru & Ko. For Mahiru you can easily see how much he has changed. He is not his cheerful self. Even Akira mentions he isn't his cheerful self at school anymore. Of course it is clear now that smile of his from back then was fake. Clearly, when his older brother died, something happened. He forced himself to act fake. Though when the 3 of them were together was when Ko & Mahiru enjoyed themselves. The fact that Kyoko goes to Mahiru's place and finds out he isn't there and hasn't been there for a while is a huge red flag. At this point Kiku has him in the palm of her hands.

Meanwhile, for Ko, it is revealed that he is a half-vampire. An interesting development, of course he almost killed Mahiru. Ko has been on both the human and vampire sides. Though when Nazuna triggers the vampire side, his mind wanders off somewhere. Meanwhile, the vampire is fighting with Nazuna. Could it be possible that half-vampires are what vampires really are? These are two different selves? It could be the key to learning more about Kiku if possible. In a last bit, Nazuna mentions the trigger here is anger; after all, Ko was angry at Mahiru. Though during the conflict between Nazuna & Kyoko he became a vampire not out of hatred, but out of a desire to stop two friends from killing each other. So Ko's vampire activation is quite odd.

Call of the Night - Volume 12:

The situation with Kiku is getting more serious. For Mahiru, his home life situation is beyond unhealthy. But even with him, you have Azami, who seems to be protecting Kiku. Which, with his story backstory, it still feels odd, but enough to understand his pov. She saved his life, granted the other men circumstances are probably much worse. More concerning is how bold and dangerous this new vampire is. Definitely feels like an actual threat compared to the other more friendly vampires.

So the trigger with Ko and his vampire traits is losing blood. Although one thing that is clear for him is the more blood he loses, the stronger he becomes. This isn't a trait of the more typical vampires. Curious how strong he can become.

Land of Monsters - Chapter 23:

I think it is not surprising that Rabi doesn't have the resolve that his mother had. Still, he doesn't have to be like his mother and understand Flute especially given the circumstances of the situation. That is a different kind of resolve.

Susuki is one of the oddest vampires. The term lone wolf is fitting because she really came to love Ko just because he beat her in a fight. Though with both her & Azami, you have two vampires that don't go after human blood. Kind of interesting how the earlier parts of the story would be like if they knew this. For Kyoko she would be more open to vampires & humans coexisting, though it didn't change what happened to her family. Meanwhile, for Nazuna she wouldn't have felt obligated to have offspring.

HRZpFjd.jpeg

b8m6HH9.jpeg

TyCuZ0N.jpeg

Though the interesting part told by Susuki that vampires can't drink the blood of those that they love. As mentioned, Kiku hasn't sucked Mahiru's blood, so could this mean she actually likes him? Though Azami's suggestion is that she wants to kill a human to prove her love. Though if Mahiru hasn't turned into a vampire would he immediately die though?

jufYZIW.jpeg

7ItZQNF.jpeg

But god, Kiku is a sicko. Basically comforts Mahiru's mom to snap her out of it, but then just to torture her by taking her own son out of her life. She says she did it for Mahiru, but that isn't normal behavior at all. It all stems from seeing is doing it for herself so that Mahriu would only be here for her and her only. Mahiru falling for it is just more and more upsetting. Though Kiku seems to possess Nazuna's weakness, which is interesting because she was born as a vampire. Unless that weakness is tied to her mother? Still, Kiku is a difficult villain because she is simply running away, and that is her winning condition. Not even sure how everyone else would respond. To add to the fact we see Ko's mom for the first time, it seems he will be heading back to school soon.

mrfy7SR.jpeg

wfmHtse.jpeg

y1wS2Ez.jpeg

Interesting bit of addition is that when a vampire tries to pass through the object they become a negative. So if what they try to go through is negative then well its like both are positive. Does add a bit extra in vampire fights.

Bug Ego - Chapter 11:

Canner is fascinating. Its ability to transform is really cool. Wonder what they can do with him going forward. Eventually I do expect Moegawa to join. Though it might be a while at this point.

Author actually posted a small inconsistency in the story and put it out at the end of the volume. I give props for doing that. Staying on top of weekly manga is not easy. Most mangaka would just pretend that inconsistency never happened. :mjpls:

Honestly, the conversation between Ko & his mom went better than I expected. Honestly, given her situation, I do respect her at least for knowing she isn't winning any mom awards. Plus, she's trying her best with mention of the school trip. Granted her allowing the other girls to come in is bizarre. Tbh feels like more like a character the author just created. Though the school trip is important because of Mahiru's family situation that stopped him from going. Though it's interesting that Mahiru copied his brother and in return Ko copied Mahiru when he acted as an honor student.

It's good for Ko to reinteract with his classmates again. Though what Kiku is planning and all of this happening so close together is strange. Adding to the fact that the vampire that Ko senses feels fishy as well. Also, the fact that Kiku has Nazuna's umbilical cord is just creepy. The only reason she would have that is to use it against Nazuna's mother, so more and more what has Kiku been doing this whole time?

bNczdv1.jpeg

NChKTbS.jpeg

93LwITp.jpeg

Though her mother's wording on vampire life emphasizes how lonely and miserable it can be. Vampires are immortal, and that isn't really living because as humans you really treasure your limited time. She basically knew she was going to die not sucking blood, but she wanted to be able to treasure her life like a human. Ironic given how Ko & Mahiru want to be vampires in this story.

J6Lkoa1.jpeg

rEjWBMH.jpeg

The whole idea of glamoring is something this story has mentioned before. It is clear Kiku is doing that to Mahiru. Though it is hard to say that for Nazuna. Maybe at the start, but lately and for most of this story, it doesn't feel like that.

@tripleaamin I have never read 200+ chapters of something this fast in my life, and it was worth it

By the end of chap 211 I have no further doubts

LoM is the pinnacle of occult/supernatural mystery storytelling :wow: there's still 1000+ chapters left, can't predict a single thing going on in this hoe and the pacing is immaculate

I wouldn't be surprised the anime was trying to speedrun just so they can end the season on that moment, it's gonna suck for anime-onlys though, too much fukkery occurred and they're gonna skip a lot of it

Yea so many readers been copping pleas for the show it's crazy

Mahfukkas will list 8 things they didn't like that damn near ruin the plot but still say 9 outta 10 episode :skip: I can't stand when nikkas are just happy they got something animated and make wild excuses for it, I had a hard time following episode 5 and I JUST read a lot of that shyt, they butchered it so bad

Although I wouldn't take a reaction channels opinion on a show seriously about anything, them mf'ers just be tryna get they jokes off half the time and typically lean towards the tropey shows that are easy to predict

Despite the first impression that he gave, Haruka isn't completely a bad guy. The interesting thing is that he fell in love & was turned into a vampire by Haru. The fukked-up thing about it is that Haru complained about vampire life but brought a human to become said vampire. Although one could assume that Haruka's human life was bad enough that maybe being a vampire was better for him. It is hard to say. Though the big thing we learn here is that both Haru & Kiku wanted to turn human. Though it still makes for why Kiku had Nazuna's umbilical cord odd. Life of immortality can be boring, and an ending point in life can make you treasure it. In the flashback we see Kiku mention that Haru believed falling in love with a human could turn them back into a human. However, we know Haru died as a vampire and was forced to live as a human. It feels like Kiku's plans are either misleading or there is a piece we are missing. Could Haru have been too afraid of turning Nazuna's father into a vampire and ruining his life?

Given the number of humans Kiku has encountered and the number of lives she ruined it feels like she is forcing her love rather than actually falling in love. At this point Mahiru is in danger because he could just be like the rest of the other offspring of Kiku. At this point it seems, for Mahiru he doesn't seem as willing to let go of his human life as much as he wants. Becoming a vampire and preparing that making it feel like preparing for your death is a pretty depressing thought.

Night Light Hounds - Chapter 18:

Really like Hawk's advice here because this isn't an easy operation for Jimmy. His heart has to be in it too. Also curious to see other werewolves outside of Lili.

Ruri's regret regarding Peony was sorrowful. Sad to learn that her mother turned into a fiend. Perhaps this explains her harsh feelings against Shade because whatever turned her mother into a fiend basically ruined her life. Though for Ruri this was finally her chance to make amends and reconnect with Peony. I do wonder if him not being affected is because he has moved past the trauma with Peony? Or he has the will to push past it?

This series continues to impress :wow:

Miku Ahiru is an example of how yes talent is important, but your circumstances are important as well. What if she lived with a rink with a more active community? How far would she have gone and her talents taken her? It's hard to say, but the term luck gets thrown in this volume. It would be ideal to leave a spectacular performance as her finale, but it's clear she doesn't want to quit. Which more is why her final performance didn't live up to what she could do. Though for Miku, as talented as she is, there could lie a different path for her. Like we see with Tsukasa just like Miku, he had talent that he never. Though for him like Inori it was when he was first getting into the sport that was the issue. Like how Tsukasa found his path as a coach it will be curious what route Miku goes.

GsiKhmb.jpeg

mrrg1aj.jpeg

V6Qm8xg.jpeg

Though unlike Miku, Inori chose to pursue her dreams. She leads an impressive start, getting two quads. Though for Inori to keep pushing for the triple lutz alongside that takes great dedication to say the least. Sadly, the triple lutz comes a bit short. Though I do like that Inori doesn't let that get to her. In fact, the step sequence really shows what she takes after Tsukasa. As it was mentioned earlier how beautiful Tsukasa's ice skating is! For Inori to embrace that really shows that she was to prove her coach is truly a great coach despite him not having the success that Jun had.

wIIsmzp.jpeg

kealbPJ.jpeg

B09GYa2.jpeg

WyrZHeR.jpeg

The older girls mentioned the idea of changing your routine. Iruka was the one who mentioned that they would. As Inori does just that in competition. That it is quite inspiring to see her motivation. As we know, Inori is Tsukasa's first student. The point that gets missed is that the moment Tsukasa embraced being a coach is when he gave up on his dream. While yes her dream is to rival and beat Hikaru, but she wants to prove she can win as Tsukasa's student. Even not mentioning the triple axel to him is definitely something she shouldn't make a bit of. Still, you really have to admire her determination as she lands that and finishes her performance well.

zuJtPxP.jpeg

wqea976.jpeg
HkpJFEL.jpeg

4v1WB8e.jpeg

Still, Inori didn't finish in the top 3. Most shows how much when you make a mistake is when it hurts. An early mistake can be easily forgotten, but a mistake in the middle or near in the end can leave an impression on the judges. Though this serves more motivation for Inori, but this clearly hurts.

ZH7n5I8.jpeg

To add Hikaru's conversation with Tsukasa does come across as a bit creepy in many ways. Talking to him as if he sacrificed enough and why he failed. His point about sacrifices doesn't mean something good can happen. Hell you can make sacrifices, and you only go downhill. The key to what Tsukasa is doing as he coaches Inori is being smart about it. Though what is actually unsettling is why a child is so casually mentioning sacrifices to an adult. Hikaru's mind is definitely warped, but you can tell she really does care for Inori. Still much like Tsukasa, we know how great Inori's work ethic is. It will be interesting to see how she continues as she starts the junior part of her career.

Kiku continues to be quite the confusing character. I think at this point her love for Mahiru might be more real than I first thought. However, that love is also being seen as very obsessive of sorts. Though in many ways she wants Mahiru to sacrifice so much for her. All just for her to die. It makes you wonder what about Mahiru? As like Haru Kiku will leave her loved one. Though unlike Nazuna's father, Mahiru will be a vampire. While Mahiru's love is real, but if everything goes as schedule he will be alone. Honestly, this makes his jealousy of Ko more understandable. He knows Ko cares for him, but he feels like Ko got the luck of the draw. He gets to be a vampire with the woman he loves. Hell adding Mahiru's family circumstances he doesn't have much outside of Akira & Ko.

HBfXxfw.jpeg

For Kyoko her stance on Kiku is a bit more complicated. In a more objective stance, there is no real point to her wanting revenge because like those detective novels, what is the point after getting your revenge? That doesn't hide the pain. Kiku is the reason she lost her family. She knows that revenge won't help her move on, but seeing the woman who ruined her family has to hurt so much.

Call of the Night - Volume 17

Tbh the whole arc focusing on Kiku as an antagonist and how she was manipulating Mahiru. In technical terms, she basically shaped who he was after his brother died. It feels dirty since he just made up with Ko. By all accounts, Mahiru's relationship with his mom was repairable, and it was Kiku who destroyed and broke her. I get the idea of humanizing Kiku, but it feels very contradictory given all the awful things Kiku did.

At least for Koyko she got some closure. That her dad did shytty, but he still loved her. Which is probably the best answer she can get for herself at this point. Also looks like Nazuna is finally coming to show her feelings for Ko.

"August 11th. That retard Floren is showing off again :unimpressed: "

The dialogue+inner monologue in this shyt is so funny :dead: but it should be obvious that any character that get's isekai'd to another time period would/should still be shyt talking in a modern way, i feel like a ton of shows drop the ball on remembering to include that type of humor

Finished up Call of the Night. The first half of the series was great. But the 2nd half of the it felt the author knew what they wanted to do, but didn't at the same time. The series did have really good themes surrounding romance, which most don't explore. Also mental issues surrounding those themes. There is something lacking that kept it from being great, which it started as.

Starting to read the Paradise Arc for Call of the Night. Hard to make much out of it much, but it being detective mystery focused instead of romance could be interesting depending on how well the author can write.

Great chapter focusing on Nene. Despite being a typical tsundere, I do like how the series handles it. For both Arisu & Shinobu, there is conflicting feelings for Nene. She adores her friendship with Shinobu but can't help being jealous when she spends time with Arisu. She hates how Arisu intruded in the club from just being all girls. However, it is clear as day her feelings for him.

Nene words of "I hate you" with a smile are part of a coexistence of both those emotions. In which the flashforward you see she has a better handle of both of those emotions coexisting.

Makes sense that Flute would take on a human form to understand Oki, which makes sense. Though interesting this is the first time that we actually see Oki flustered to a degree. Though you do get the sense that she is widly interesting by monsters, but Flute is the first that wanted to know her. Which is why Flute is considered one of Oki's friends.

The chapter in summarization is calm before the storm before Ubel most likely fukks shyt up.

Though basically none of the sides can do too much right now.

  • The Shadow Warriors know that if the Continental of Magic attacks them an all-out war would happen against the Empire. So that leaves The Magic Special Forces from the Empire being the only real ones that can move forward.
  • Though it seems the ballroom will be protected at all costs. Though if anyone leaves, then it is open game. But if no one leaves, it is at a stalemate. More then likely Ubel will be the instingator.

An actual place of safety for the 3 of them. Although I don't blame John for having doubts. I can't blame the guy. I did like Pano & John's talk. Hopefully she stays as an important piece of emotional support for John because he needs it.
