Even though this has been a bad look for the admin I'm glad the BOT let their nuts hang so the "Miami doesn't have money" myth can die:aicmon:

They've always had money. Them millionaires just didn't give af about football (sports in general) until them Cubans joined the board.
I don't live in Miami but it seems like the Cubans are the ones with the money

That's why I'd roll my eyes whenever people would say Miami is broke and can't afford things. There's a difference between being broke and being cheap.

The Oyes are the ones who have a stranglehold on South Florida and are realistically the only ones who can get shyt done when it comes to UM football. If this is what it takes for Miami to finally start playing big boy football, then so be it.

Other groups have money too. Thing is, a lot of rich people in Miami aren't from Miami, so they have zero incentive to give a shyt about The U. The rich Cubans remember the glory days of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s and they want that era to return. That's why they were so intent on making the city's homegrown Cuban son who was actually on those Miami teams the face of the program.

they need like an “Oregon guy” if they are going to keep continuity at the coaching position. Otherwise coaches will continue to come there, do well, use it as a stepping stone to another job.

They need like what Mike Gundy is to Oklahoma State.

The only coach before this who ever used Oregon as a "stepping stone" is Kelly and he jumped to the NFL, nothing you could do about that.

Willie wasn't using Oregon as a stepping stone, he just made a lateral move when his hometown job opened. If the job had opened the year before he would have been just as likely to get it, he was getting hired for what he'd done at South Florida not cause of one 7-5 season at Oregon.

I don't think he leaves if they won last night. Taking the L only made the decision easier.

Why? He'd already won back-to-back conference titles at Oregon, another one wouldn't have moved the needle at all. He already knew who his team was and where this season was going, this decision was clearly in the works long before this.

Oregon HC job always a revolving door. They've had 4 coaches in the last 5 years (counting whoever replaces cristobal).

Cristobal alone was coach for 4 years so your counting makes no sense.

And before that they'd had 4 coaches over the previous 40 years so your use of "always" makes no sense either. Everyone except Willie has lasted at least 4 years, and before Chip the previous two coaches had been there for 18 years and 14 years.

Can he bring in the black talent though, or will they just go off to play in a better conference?

It sucks cause Miami/Florida produces so much football culture and Oregon can’t compete with “home”

but it feels like they always regret it cause Miami can’t compete with Oregon when it comes to facility and investment in football.

They have better recruiting grounds in Florida but the schools don’t have they shyt together.

I feel like Willie regretted leaving for FSU

Yeah, I think Willie definitely should have stayed. He was only at Oregon one season but I liked him more than anyone they've had since Kelly. Glad to see Cristobal go, his play-calling and use of personnel was just absolutely ass and who cares about recruiting if you don't use them right?

The entire focus on getting a "recruiter" is disgusting, treats kids like meat. A school like Oregon should focus on developing a good system and then letting the success and the facilities do the talking.
