:mindblown: who said that?

Nobody said it. Like I said in a previous thread....Sony Stans keep saying that same thing over and over again with no proof that anyone in The Coli actually said it.

We don't believe you, you need more people!

TYRONE GA!
Correct. But Sony doesn't have the infrastructure. So devs have no incentive to use dedicated servers if they are going to have to pick up the costs

:duck:

Yall forgot folding at home already? PS3 games already have dedicated servers. Many other games as well. Now do all of them do? No. Most will opt for peer to peer as it it cheaper.

However, with MS "licensing" dedicated servers to devs instead of using their own, I still don't believe that EVERY MS XB1 multiplayer game will use it. Some devs may still opt to use their own shyt or even continue to use p2p.

I doubt Dice gives up their BF dedicated servers to use MS's. While it IS great to have, will everyone use it?

@Liquid please explain to this man that he is wrong. Maybe he will believe it from a fellow Sony fan.

Link?:mjpls:

I dont need anything to be explained to me. I have a good background on these types of things. Small cpu calculations and the like yes is possible with the cloud. When you stream a video, you arent streaming the entire game...which could be over 20gb depending on which one you are talking about. You are just streaming a video bitstream.

And i will not be drudging through these threads looking for a link, but I dont say anything that is untrue. You call me a sony stan, but I am easily able to talk about technology in an unbiased manner.

streaming a game ("remote play" or whatever you want to call it) is different from just streaming video (netflix, youtube, etc). the main issue is always gonna be input lag

This is true, but the argument is not being made against lag; that is inevitable. The argument is being made on the bandwidth, of which an input stream will have a negligible impact upon.

The Passage of Time
It took an article to tell you something that I've been saying since day one? :mjpls:

No one claimed what Microsoft was doing with Azure was proprietary or magical. The difference between Microsoft and Sony is that Microsoft has built the API's to interact with Azure. And Azure has the capability to serve and process a MASSIVE AMOUNT OF DATA. Same API access and calls. Same location.

SONY DOES NOT HAVE THE INFRASTRUCTURE CAPABILITY NOR DID THEY BUILD THE PS4 WITH THE TOOLS NEEDED TO GIVE DEVS EASY ACCESS TO ONE CENTRALIZED CLOUD. It took Microsoft YEARS to build up Azure. It took Apple YEARS to build their data center for iCloud. It will take Sony until the next generation to provide something similar to Microsoft...even if they built it into the tools/API.

I've taken a break from these console wars because this shyt has gotten ridiculous. Same shyt over and over again. :beli:

Do you have access to a Sony SDK? I ask because you are making a shyt load of opinion based assumptions, about infrastructure and dev tools and amongst other things.

PS4′s Mark Cerny Explains What Works And What Doesn’t Work With Cloud Computing | DualShockers

Many are wondering what the heck this “Cloud computing” touted by Microsoft and somehow echoed by Sony can do and cannot do, and PlayStation 4′s Lead Architect March Cerny has his own answer to that question, as he explained as part of an interview on IGN.

"It’s possible to do computing in the Cloud, PlayStation 4 can do computing in the Cloud. We do something today: Matchmaking is done in the Cloud and it works very well. If we think about things that don’t work well… Trying to boost the quality of the graphics, that won’t work well in the Cloud."

There you have it, straight from the Lion’s mouth. If someone tells you that the “Power of the Cloud” will magically boost the visuals of your games, he’s probably pulling your leg.

(Editor’s Note: the following part is not from the interview, and it’s just the Editor’s technical assessment) Of course Cloud computing can somehow free resources to be used with graphics, but that’s an entirely different story altogether: if you offload elements like AI, limited physics, world simulation and similar to cloud computing, the local machine has more resources that can indeed be dedicated to rendering visuals.

The catch is that those elements offloaded to the cloud need to have a very limited data footprint. Larger data footprints will result in interfering with bandwidth to be used for online gaming and connectivity, and even more so will cause the game to be overly reliant on the quality of the internet connection, severely limiting what developers can do with it.
They surely don’t want the game to suddenly break or elements of it to start lagging of behaving unreliably because the user’s internet had a hiccup. This limitation means that the influence of cloud computing on graphics, even when freeing resources for them, is most probably very limited.

:youngsabo:

Cloud Computing = Glorified Name for Dedicated Servers as many have already said.

Why is sony JUST NOW INVESTING IN THE CLOUD if its no big deal tho :patrice:
And they do match making via there cloud :laff:

Real question, this gen Xbox had True Skill Matchmaking (google it if you don't know what that is, xbox exclusive)

Then understand the match making for Xbox One is so damn advanced that what Cerny is saying about matching is a joke. He designed the PS4, but all he can say is "Uh, we use the cloud too... for MATCH MAKING!!!"
Thats cool, but let me educate you on what Xbox One is doing so you can be envious like you have been for the last 10yrs..........

^^^ That right there talks about all the improvements and the fact you won't be waiting to hop into matches on Xbox One ^^^

Cerny says nothing close to that. And Mark is probably lying since PS4 doesn't have dedicated servers for all games :patrice:
