A married pastor has pleaded guilty to a prostitution charge that stemmed from a July 2017 incident in which he paid an undercover sheriff's deputy $80 for sex.

Eddie Hilburn, the former pastor of The Woodlands First Baptist Church, took a plea deal on Monday.

In exchange for his guilty plea, he will receive a year-long sentence of deferred adjudication, a form of probation that allows him to escape a conviction on his record if he successfully completes it, according to Chron.com.

Hilburn was arrested on on July 19, 2017, by the Harris County Sheriff's Office after he paid an undercover sheriff's deputy $80 for sexual activities,KTRK reported at the time.

The 52-year-old father-of-three resigned from his position as an associate pastor at the church just days after he was charged.

He started that position at the church back in 2012, and had previously worked at other churches in both Texas and Wisconsin, according to the church's website.
