It's been under the radar in Western media but Lebanon is in the middle of a MASSIVE economic crisis right now. Like, there ain't even bread in the stores and regular middle-class people have no food level crisis. If this fukks them up even worse, there will be actual starvation.
it definitely will.
the airport which is 10 kms away from the port was damaged.
hospitals all over the city but especially east beirut are wrecked. ERs completely destroyed
the souks, an upscale downtown shopping center in west beiruts coastal area, completely destroyed. i was actually there last year and a bunch of shops were boarded up because of the economic crash anyway
the damage of this explosion would cost millions upon millions and the country is bankrupt. and if it is the result of improper handling of confiscated fertilizer like sources are saying now that will also intensify anti-government sentiment to an even greater degree
