Check this out.

Human beings are so smart yet so stupid and shortsighted at the same time. It's scary.

That video is horrifying. And it should be mandatory viewing for anyone even attempting to have these types of discussions. I have been saying for years that, contrary to what naysayers keep repeating, this is NOTHING like the industrial revolution which took away some jobs but created many others.

Job creation is already stagnated as it is, so how would more technology replacing even more jobs suddenly create jobs in the future? The vast majority of any jobs they will create will be highly specialized and require extensive skill that only a minuscule subset of the population will be able to learn. And as soon as they can figure out how to get rid of even those jobs, trust and believe they'll do it.

How come #EntrepreneurGang never addresses what happens when people can no longer afford to buy your product or service? Aside from that, everybody can't be a business owner so what then?

Those computers need people to write code, need people to physically repair them, need people to build them and etc. The very creation of this new service opens up higher paying jobs if you have the skills.

Its sad how some of you cats are scared and resort to a mindset of helplessness, when confronted with things you are unfamiliar with.

How many people does it take to write code or repair a computer? This don't have shyt to do with being scared or helpless, this is about facing reality, not telling bedtime stories with happy endings that don't add up.

This new sector of higher paying jobs will, like I said, only be available to a small subset of the population. What about everyone else? They're going to automate away all the little minimum wage jobs people are barely getting by on now. What happens when those people are wholly unemployed and on the streets? You think they're just going to sit there complacently until they die?

Depending on the software it can take a large team to write code, check the code, and go through the process.
Repairing computers is usually done by more than one person, so that isn't just a 1 person job, especially when you have uptime considerations.
Breh everything you are saying comes from pure fear mongering and alarmism. You are really just spouting off neo-luddite pontifications.

The jobs being replaced are a small subset of the population, and now those jobs are being automated and new industries will be created to funnel in workers who can aid in running that industry.

Minimum wage advocates brought this on themselves with their demanding of high wages and insurance for low revenue generating unskilled work. I don't feel sympathy or anything for those who work on minimum wage. Like I said earlier, develop those skills and get a job in a growing sector, the writing has been on the wall that automation was coming for these jobs, if you get caught out there you have no one to blame but yourself.

No unemployment we just get more work done. Dumb logic.

The big change is that the unskilled labor force is useless and will get shyt jobs. The days of banking being a line worker is long gone.

You have an outdated and ignorant view on this wave of automation.

New jobs created will be limited and highly specialized. Also, they will most likely be outsourced to contractors or freelancers who will be hired upon whomever can do the most work for the lowest cost (particularly when it comes to repair and maintenance). If highly skilled and specialized robotics jobs are the wave of the future more people will do what's required to get into that arena making it a common job with a large pool of candidates all vying to do a lot of work at a low cost because that's the most "lucrative" employment to be found. That's the problem with this new wave of automation and innovation. In times past jobs that were replaced were replaced with literally millions more and often much easier work as whole new industries could spring up from a single technological innovation. That's not happening now. Robotics is not a new industry. People build, repair, and code robots already. So all of the new entrants into the field will be at a disadvantage as there will already be experts holding a number of positions to begin with.

Also, it's about efficiency to maximize profit and cut costs, particularly labor costs. How much repair do you think one of these new machines will need once they go into production en masse? The goal will be to go for as long as possible with as little repair as possible. That way you can have one repair "contractor" per 50 robots or you can outsource the work to a large conglomerate that specializes in such and they will probably have one repairman per 100 robots they can intake. Keeps labor costs down and will make sure that the human employees hours working are maximized. Code updates can be done by small design teams and pushed through over the cloud.

So not only will you have less overall jobs due to the destruction of industries/positions but the "replacement jobs," will be high skilled (long investment time) without premium pay as there will be a surge of entrants into the field just to survive driving down wages. So yeah, the American Multinational Version of Automation we've been exporting to the world is terrible and is not like the Industrial Revolution in any way beyond both having an explosion of new technology.

I can see it now. "You can't do this to me! I created you!"

For some reason, this Black Mirror episode comes to mind:
