Tastes differ obviously, I agree that GC's album was very good and kinda different than the otherNL albums during this period. All 4 Fiend and Mac albums from 98/99 are amazing imo, hard to rate them, I'd say WW3 is the best one, Street Life the worst of the 4 (still great)

Sales in 99 were disappointing for such an established label at that point, C only went gold, Serv/Who U Wit/Fiend/Mac/Magic/Mercedes/Mo B/Lil Soldiers all missed gold, Da Crime Family only went gold (means less than 500k sold since it's a double CD)...Snoop was the only big seller left, his Top Dogg and Last Meal albums were way better than DGITBS (which was better than its reputation tho)

breh. none of those albums in the bolded had any business going gold anyway. and that includes c-murder. half of these albums didn't even have a video in regular rotation on rap city. some of these names weren't even dial-up options on the box.

you can say they were disappointments by the standards that no limit set for themselves the previous 2 years, but lets be reality.

the only sales that were legit disappointing were "da crime family", which was bootlegged heavy at least.

ehh. I prefer DGITBS over the other 2 no limit snoop albums......but I don't listen to that album for snoop.

I remember a C interview between his debut and Bossalinie where he stated that if he sold less than LOD (platinum), it'd be a major disappointment for him and the label

Yeah nobody expected Lil Soldiers or Who U Wit to sell much, but Mo B and Serv were NL mainstays since 95 and appeared on almost all NL albums, they should have done better. Same with Fiend, Mac, Magic. Of course marketing failed miserably, all their videos didn't air on the important nationwide stations you mentioned (except maybe Fiend's Talk It How I Bring It/Mr Whomp Whomp). Meanwhile CMR had Back That Azz Up, We On Fire, Hot Girl, Bling Bling etc on constant rotation

it all comes down to the bolded.

I didn't even know there was a video for bossaline until a few years ago.

and to take it further, I really don't remember bossaline being released.

if he had platinum standards for that album, that's a nice goal to set, but realistically, that album over-achieved on the charts.

I actually never heard the album really.... I remember as a kid my mom had the movie on VHS, and I used to jack off to that strip club scene like crazy :whew:

youre basing your whole argument off of smoke-n-mirrors.

master p sold the same, and he didn't do it like mase with bubble-gum rap and the bad boy/laface/arista machine behind him.
P did it with street records, on his own independent imprint, and got a ton of his artist to sell gold, platinum & double-platinum albums., mostly off the strength of him. are you really trying to say mase was bigger than master p? and that's just a sample. I'm barely scratching the surface. P changed hip-hop. put the south on the map, and changed the way heads do business. this isn't even arguable breh. don't even get me started on the movies and all the other stuff. its not even close.

juvenile - we were talking '98. NOT '99-00. and even then, juvenile by himself was never a draw like master p. he was more ralph tresvant than bobby brown.
jay-z did songs with no limit too breh. why bring him up anyway?
bling bling isn't juvenile's record. he spit like 8 bars on there.

DMX only had a couple videos??:wtf:

2pac's greatest hits??:mjlol:

master p fell off in record time??:what:

I don't think youre really up on this topic. I like your posts in TSC, so i'll just leave it there.
2pacs greatest hits did go diamond changes was one of the biggest songs of that year. Mase did have a big run during that time as well X and jay too but p wasnt far behind

we counting greatest hits albums from deceased artists now?

mase was huge but he wasn't as big as master p.

jay-z didn't take off til the latter part of the year.

the only other option that you can choose besides master p is DMX. and my vote still goes to P.

This man knows his shyt

DMX and MP were nr 1a and 1b in 1998. Jay, Puffy, Mase and co after them. Pac wasn't alive

Hell P had some of the biggest rap stars on his label too at that point (Silkk, Snoop, also C and Mystikal on the come-up)

Master P was behind both Jay and X in '98. Jay Z had appearances and songs that were staples in '98 that culminated into the Hard Knock Life album being the monster that it was. If anything P was neck and neck with Mase. Puff still had a lot of residuals from '97. "Victory" was still making its rounds. "It's All About The Benjamins" was still heavy. There was the "Been Around the World" remix and the No Way Out tour. Puff set the stage for X and Jay to blow like they did. A lot of X's initial buzz came from his appearances on Bad Boy albums.

I forgot puff was riding high off no way out still which went 7xplatinum, then mase harlem world was 5x plat. P wasnt far behind but by 98 hip hop was back on east coast not to mention dmx dropped 2 #1 albums that yr. Than big puns debut sold over 2mil plus he was featured on almost everysong on radio. NL still had steam as far as their wcw appearances, etc. but they were on a decline before the yr was up.

Yep.

And Bad Boy has DMX features twice on Harlem World and he was featured on The Lox's "Money, Power, Respect". Then Sheek was featured on "Get At Me Dog", Faith had vocals on "How's It Going Down" and then you had Mase and The Lox on "Done Started Something".

There's no denying that Bad Boy and DMX were hella forces in 98, but No Limit was on another level. Nikkas like Young Bleed, Kane&Abel or Mean Green compilation went gold with little promo and radio/video play, so you can guess how much dinero went straight into P's pockets too. Bad Boy had a way bigger marketing machine behind em and only put out Mase in late 97, Lox in early 98 and 3 R&B albums (Faith, Total, 112) throughout 98 while NL released 2-4 albums per month at some point

The New No Limit :scust:

New No Limit and Guttar Music :scust:

And No Limit definitely started falling off in 99, don't know why that's up for debate when it was very clear. Cash Money was already passing them by.
