Lets not be hypocrites cuz it's Jazz. We have the same issue when someone decides to exploit hiphop and is terrible at it yet successful.

It's not just about doing it cause you can do it. What about their culture in Jazz?

Nikka sound like a hater :manny:

Critique is fine, but there's a way to do it without tearing someone down

Not like Andre was being arrogant and disrespectful to other jazz pianists. He never made the project out to be more than what it is. Him having fun on the piano playing whatever came to mind
It’s arrogant and disrespectful because this nikka is actually selling it. And because of his fame. Probably will be able to sit in the same places as true musicians. Would u call Prince a hater if he said the same shyt? Cause he damn sure would.

Prince for damn sure could be a hater at times :russ:

That don't take away from his talent, but I'd say the same. Let people be :manny:

I used to be kinda that way. Especially towards guys like Kenny g but everybody got a place within music. At the end of the day, musicianship is in decline in general. Raising the barrier to entry isn't gonna do any favors

If anything, guys like Shipp should learn to engage with people of all skill levels to inspire them to be more interested in jazz or playing instruments in general. Use it as an opportunity to teach. Instead of just saying he sucks, break down why it doesn't work musically and present an example of how to improve the composition

All while not being as condescending as possible. Cause most the criticism towards e stacks piano skills are ironically just as skillful and thought out as the album :bryan:

But Kenny G earned his stripes and can actually play. We may not like the music but he is a credible, respected musicians whose been doing his thing for decades in the studio and live.

Shipp is encouraging people by setting a standard. You can play the piano but you better come correct if you gonna do it cuz if we ain't excepting bullchit from 3 Stacks we ain't excepting it from you.

WHat happen with Hiphop is it conditioned us to half ass it. We accept half assed hiphop now so its like why can't jazz accept half assed jazz, why can't country accept half azzed country. Why does everybody have to try nowadays, why can't they just half azz it like they do in Hiphop.

I've never seen straight people suck dikk the way they do over anything Andre 3000 and now Kendrick. Yall are weird as fukk, just like 3k

Eh. You're misreading. I actually don't care about his flute or piano album. I'm just defending an artist's ability to create something in whatever way they see fit.

I don't much care for commentary, including my own. You like it or you don't.

Were nikkas nice to Vanilla Ice, Iggy Azaliea and the slew of other culture vultures who exploited Hiphop for personal gain?
I think this is the frustration of dude in the OP.

It's the equivalent of some dude who never rapped before fukking around in the studio recording a rap album full of trash beats and trash lyrics and having that shyt get more attention than everyone else in the genre.

This is facts. I have the same animosity towards Lil Baby nem that dude has for Andre and I think it’s justified.

:gucci: That's disrespectful as HELL
its fukking pretentious. thelonious monk isnt even that obscure. a lot of people who enjoy jazz end up being fakkits about it. its best to ignore them and just dig what you like. i wish you could punch people through the screen. id just shove a baseball bat through the screen at him. :birdman:

i cannot stand a motherfukker who thinks hes special because of the music he listens to:pacspit:

my music library goes from a tribe called quest to frank zappa. i love music. but dudes like that remind me of people who read books not for the story, but so they can talk about it and feel special. i wish i could murder these people

Smooth jazz did far more harm to the image of jazz than this EP will ever do :manny:

And I say that as someone who feels Kenny g has a place in jazz. Though I'm not a fan

Plus, unless you in band in school, the majority of kids these days doesn't give a fukk about jazz

Even ones that do, how many actually understand it? An andre 3000 ep won't make or break anyone's appreciation of the genre
