While this is true I don't think it applies here. SAS wanted the juice. He wanted it to be HIS show. It couldnt be that with Max there and Max acknowledged this. With Skip is was different, as Skip did him a solid in bringing him on and was his legit friend. Once Skip was gone SAS was all about establishing himself as number 1 on the show and the network.
He’s a 20 million dollar man now so it worked.

Max Kellerman is a better sports commentator than Stephen A.
Always has been.

It’s just that for some stupid reason people find Stephen’s attitude and performance more entertaining.

I think the collaboration ran its course in part because of what Max said: essentially Stephen got tired of debating a smarter guy. But also because he just didn’t have the same chemistry that he did with Skip. Probably because they’re both low brow morons.
The second part of what he said is probably closer to the truth. If it's a "team" show, SAS can't demand as much from ESPN, and he was setting up for that big contract that he just got. If he's viewed more as the solo act, as in it's SAS and First Take, instead of Skip and Stephen A., or Max and Stephen A., he's gonna get more money.

Right and I think Max would have fit in a show like the sports reporters way more then first take

That’s a compliment because sports reporters was a way better show then first take

Max would be terrible on sports reporters. They were newspaper people with 25 years in the game as columnist.

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.
His time on First Take was clunky. He's just not a natural with quick witted hot takes, couldn't make his point in under 2 min, and had no comedic timing, etc
So why is everyone saying he's smarter than Stephen A if he's on TV but is not witty or quick-thinking enough to make his point clearly?

We all would sound smart if we had 2 hours to make our point.

It sounds to me like Stephen A is the smarter one.

Max is cool at times but at his core, he is a smug white guy that thinks he knows everything lol.

Nothing wrong with being smart, but he has a energy about him that could be annoying and offputting.

Even his boxing opinions are bias as fukk and for him to say that Dana white shyt at the canelo press conference just proves he's not authentic
Young Max was on it and built himself from public broadcast to ESPN Friday Night Fights.

The problem with Max now is that he is a company man. You saw that when he was at HBO and you see that now with The Ring.

Man everything about Max is exaggerated. When did he become a GENIUS?? He’s smart yes, but what subjects has he shown that he’s a genius? He’s has some of the DUMBEST sports takes we’ve heard, that’s the reason him and SAS stayed together for 5 years, trying to outdo each other’s hot takes and vocabulary. That’s it.

Max is not a better sports commentator. He’s more subdued, but he just as dumb and ignorant about sports as Stephen A, Columbia degree or not.

He has volumes of footage (on both radio and TV) of stupid takes, being completely wrong, veiled racism, and being a know it all jackass. Basically like every other talking head. The myth that he was some great sports debater comes from people not liking Stephen A, not from his actual prowess.

There’s a reason no one besides local radio shows wanted him after First Take. No one willingly sits on the sideline in media for that long. No media company worth a damn wanted to invest in him until now.

In the words Dame Dash, Max sounds smart to someone who is dumb.

I'm with you in the veiled racism.

Anyone has his reaction to Muhammad Ali's death?

He was taking little shots while discussing Ali joining the NOI.

Just because Kellerman might have a take that doesn’t pan out doesn’t mean he’s not a smarter person than Stephen A Smith you big balloonhead fukk.

AN ENTERTAINING IDIOT, BUT AN IDIOT NONETHELESS

I USED TO LOVE LISTENING TO HIM ON LA RADIO WITH MARCELLUS WILEY... THE MAX AND MARCELLUS SHOW. ARGUABLY THE GOAT SPORTS RADIO SHOW OF ALL TIME.

THAT SAID, HIS BASKETBALL TAKES WERE TERRIBLE.

I didn’t enjoy first take when he was on there. I stopped watching them shows years ago but I watched then. Max went back to doing what he should’ve been doing in the first place

You don't have to like Max and some of his takes, but the way SAS treated him on the show was pathetic. SAS has a self inflated ego. He'll take little shots at people, and then when they finally respond, he'll do an entire one hour State of The Union type speech. There are a decent amount of times where I believe SAS is actually right in his responses, but he went on an entire tour talking about Max, and the moment Max responds, he gets annoyed. Max didn't even bash SAS. He was explaining the dynamics of the show, and it made sense what he was saying.

I think it’s cause he went to an ivy league university, Columbia.
