he's never gonna be a Larry Bird in terms of marketing because he's not American. Plus, white Americans are obsessed with super athletic American players, not foreigners. That's why Ja Morant videos all got lots of views. and if Zion gets his shyt together with this Pelicans team, he'll be super popular again

They're only concerned about athleticism for black players; lacking this attribute is actually better for white american players who can ball (Larry Bird for example) because it makes them seem even better in the eyes of whites, that they're dominating againist physically superior "black" athletes

Ayton has taken his team the farthest
Ayton didn’t take, he was along for the ride

That being said, he’s still a really good player. But there’s levels to it, and he’s not on Luka’s. You still need a 1 next to Ayton, he’s not anchoring shyt.

Above the fray.
but it's impossible.

Slovenia is NOT America and thinking that they're still desperate to find the next Larry Bird in Luka is complete disrespect to Dirk, who held it down for 2 decades.

He's right though. From a marketing standpoint, Luka could potentially bring in more casual fans. I only watched tennis when Zina Garrison was playing, in the pre-Venus era. Natural to assume that a dominant player that they could relate to would draw in more whites who don't normally follow basketball.

Also Luka is a dog, like Bird was. Gritty white guys appeal to an even bigger audience. If you're from NY area like I think, you remember how popular Jeremy Shockey was at his peak.

well it's probably not being talked about enough a 23 yr old led his team to an upset over the #1 64 win team. that's seriously nuts. it's not like the mavs are stacked either. he deserves big props and praise for that.

now that said, it doesbt matter. media only builds you up to tear you down. that's why they also are making a big deal about him out having a beer. if he doesn't get a title before 28 or makes off court mistakes best believe media gonna be on his azz.

And OP goofy. How dare the media promote greatness and try to get behind the younger talent.

Did they not do the same for Lebron at the same age?

As long as the certain players back up the hype who cares

What's annoying is the media only hyping certain locations......

We knew Luka was bound for greatness before the PHX series.. Don't need the media's code-switching to recognize this.

Yall gotta stop blaming "the media" for things you don't like. Gotdamn...

It was evident from jump that Luka was different, and each passing year he's been in The League has reinforced it. "The media" isn't gassing him just for the fukk of it, his game is really like that...

He has the Mavs in the postseason for the third consecutive season, a feat this franchise hasn't accomplished since '14 thru '16, and he has them in the WCF for the first time since his coach was here in '11. Luka has lived up to the billing every step of the way. When he truly falters we can get on his ass but as it currently stands he's deserved every ounce of praise he's gotten...
