I can't believe these dumb nikkas still falling for the bullshyt. nikkas down here been figured this shyt out or moved on from music completely to owning property and businesses. When I hear rappers crying about their contracts it just let me know they had no plan after music.

Independent money and invest.

Yep. They want hand outs from these big conglomerates instead of investing in themselves and going out to get it on your own. I'm tripping b/c he was rubbing elbows with the likes of Jay, Robert Kraft, the sixers owner, and didn''t pick up any game. Hell he got a label deal with Ross and this nikkas owns Wingstops and Checkers all over the place. No excuse for being this dumb crying about record labels not paying you. At this point in your career you shouldn't expect them to.

this really ain’t it. All the stuff the label pays for and (flights, features, production) comes out of your pocket when you’re independent

It’s a reason why everyone wants to be a on major label and being independent is something you do as a last resort

the label gives you a bunch of money to make a product for them.they also give you access to a bunch of resources to make sure you can deliver them the best product possible

the issue becomes when you fukk up your advance or when you go to re up and the label nots giving you what you want because they don’t think you will give them enough of a return

Meek stay doing and saying dumb shyt. Can't help himself. Drake beef being a prime example. Took a massive L, set his career back years, cost himself millions for no reason.

How you on Ross team, managed by Jay's company, and not got your money and your business deals right, claiming ignorance 10 years into your record deal? Clown behavior.

this again answers the 50K or dinner with Jay-Z question. take the money, this man has spent many a dinner with Jay-Z and other billionaires.
shyt, this man put money towards buying Kraft a car and doesn't even know how his record deal works.

Meek and his pockets def getting ran through having to pay back the legal fee's Roc Nation spent on him.
and the budget for his new album must've been minuscule compared to the Championships.

the new album is good too.. your man is just weird and people are turned off by his online presence.

who posts odd shyt like this ??

It's hard to keep on going to that creative well. These artists find that out too late. They're usually spent by the time they make it to 5 albums.
This is a huge issue to reconcile for artist

Chris Brown just recently announced he now has the masters to his music going forward

the peak earnings years for Chris brown music are long gone. Those masters will be nowhere near as valuable as the ones the label Have

This is a HORRIBLE use of a budget

Bad management

your manager is suppose is the one that’s suppose to get the most out of your advance money.

I see your point but I see mines more. No one made these cats take these advances and I know they be in some fukked up situations and need the money at the time but they have to start thinking before signing and have confidence to know they can do it themselves or get out of it next time renegotiations come up. It might take longer and is definitely harder but its worth it in the end. The problem is they want to be more famous than financially independent.

An artist like Meek is not in a fukked up situation. He won in the music game.

he has a catalog of music that he can make money on forever and celebrity that he can leverage forever

Most independent artist go broke. Y’all only focus on the success stories

independent artist have to use their own money for everything. Promotion, flying to handle business, beats, touring acclamations, etc

a major artist gets money and resources to do all of this and in turn that get a good chance at being stars

The plus with masters especially with Chris Brown is that he can repackage his albums or anything to get money he probably lost.

That's not to say it isn't possible to catch a hit or make good music 12 plus years into your career. But it's hard. Another option is to go the Taylor Swift route and re-record your music.

Yeah it’s not impossible

I think in a couple of years we will start seeing how profitable the re record music stuff is.

What we never hear from artist is how transparent are the major labels on how much money they have recouped from a project.

We know these small time labels and deals are fukked up.
