She's young and needed money. Like everyone that signs bad contracts when they enter the music industry.

And sidenote, J Prince owns 1501 so until he hears a number he likes, Hot Girl Summer is cancelled for the time being.

I guess my question would be how and why would TWO labels want to share a artist like Megan, who is relatively new. How would they even eat off of Her?

J. Prince doesn’t own 1501

He's either a co-owner or 1501 "partnered" with Prince (for reasons only God knows)

Megan Thee Stallion Signs W/ Roc Nation, Carl Crawford Says “Blogs Don’t Understand” + Inks Deal With J.Prince
Friday (Sept. 13) marked a major shakeup in the music industry.

Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion is officially a part of the Roc Nation roster!

She made the announcement via Instagram Friday (Sept. 13) as she posted up with the company’s founder Jay-Z.

According to reports, Megan has only signed with Roc Nation’s management team, and will still release music through the record label that first signed her, 1501 Certified, founded by former pro baseball player Carl Crawford.

Crawford responded to the news on Instagram as well.

He wrote,

“Congrats to @theestallion for signing with @rocnation!! Blogs don’t understand what’s going on now but we know u #DownbyLaw… That’s Texas [slang] for u outta towners”

He also responded to a critic who said he “fumbled” by letting Stallion take his artist.

“Go do yo research”

He then confirmed that Megan is still under the label.

Meanwhile, J. Prince of Rap-A-Lot music label also shared his thoughts.

His message comes as Rap-A-Lot announced it is teaming up 1501 Certified.

Crawford said,

“J. Prince (@jprincerespect) and Rap-A-Lot Records (@rapalotrecord) have built one of the most impactful independent music labels in the world and we are thrilled to be working with them to expand the audience for our artists globally. Improving opportunities all around, it’s great to partner with a solid individual known to solve many issues in the rap industry. #1501 #JPrince
P.S.. Ain’t no body taking s*** from me????????”

1501 Certified also said in a statement to theJasmineBRAND,

The Texas based label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, founded in 2016
started making it’s name with a slate of releases that was largely
comprised of young, up-and-coming talent looking to release high
quality projects with a unique approach to distribution, streaming,
promotion and marketing while remaining in creative control, releasing
their works outside of the traditional label system. 1501 Certified
Ent. quickly saw its reputation bolstered by the formulated integrated
marketing and promotion strategies and within 3 years the label
reached national heights with their Billboard Chart topping artist,
Megan Thee Stallion. (3 Gold Plaques, Over 25 Million streams on all
platforms)

CEO & Founder Carl Crawford’s perspective on the value of independent
music and where it rests with the youth has not wavered. In a bold
step forward 1501 Certified Ent. joins forces with Iconic businessman
and music executive, J. Prince with in multi year consulting deal. The
Rap-A-Lot head chiefs entrepreneurial footsteps are major, to say he
knows a thing or two about the music business would be an
understatement.

With this new venture J. Prince will consult on creative
development, sonic branding, strategy services and more to 1501
Certified Ent. non exclusively.

“J. Prince and Rap-A-Lot Records have built one of the most impactful
independent music labels in the world and we are thrilled to be
working with them to expand the audience for our artists globally,”
said Carl Crawford, “Improving opportunities all around, it’s great to
partner with a solid individual known to solve many issues in the rap
industry.”

“The music business is a business filled with sharks and cut throat
people. So congratulations to the homie Carl Crawford owner of 1501
Records for breaking your first artist Megan Thee Stallion. Carl is
from my hood, better known as 5th Ward and I’m proud to be his new
partner moving forward.” declares J. Prince, “Surprise to all that had
plans on taking something from him, good luck with that. This is just
the beginning.”

Founded in 1986, Rap-A-Lot Records became a pre-eminent independent
hip hop label generating more than 100 Million in sales with little to
no radio airplay. Led and executed by J. Prince who has been credited
for putting Southern rap on the map and the legendary Rap-A-Lot army
of influencers and southern rap aficionados, aka the “street team,”
definitely paved the way for the label to be known for the
true-to-life gritty southern sound and lyricism of its pioneering
groups – Ghetto Boys, Devin The Dude, Scarface, Slim Thug, Z-Ro,
Juvenile, Pimp C to name a few. Remaining active with current artists
such as Drake, Turk, YBN Nahmir and Bun B.

Carl Crawford, who owns Megan's label talks about it here.
She's capping. She signed a management deal with Roc nation, and thought they were going to be able to bully him out of his artist. That didn't work so now she's starting a slander campaign against him.

Btw, could she just drop music under another alias/monicker and put it in an uncertified mixtape?

This could go in her favor if she decides to go rogue. The people would love the unconventional method and support her off the strongness of her ability to say fukk the labels and do some incognito shiit.

What y'all thank?

.

Nope, she probably signed her publishing away, so she in theory could pull a Prince and release under a new alias, but she wouldn't have access to the vast resources of a major label (producers, licenses for samples, advertising, etc)....but within a PRO (Performing Rights Organization), her stage name is tied to her real name, so that could be a problem if she went rogue...

If she decided to do a mixtape without permission, she'd get a Cease and Desist from her label from performing songs (since she probably sold her publishing rights to her labels)

That’s what I suspected. She was hoping Jay and his team of people would be able to get her out the deal, but Carl invested in her when no one else would, I wouldn’t let her get away that easily neither.

Same shyt different artist. It’s cool when they’re not making any money and just want a look off a label. Then they blow, start making some serious bread and it’s only then they look into the fineprint and see how shyt gets split, then they start actin up. It’s wild how the finesse still works the exact same.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

These artists been getting finessed for years. First thing they need to do is go get an attorney and have them go over the fine print before they sign anything.

What was prince’s alias? Was it that sign thing?

So prince had that much money he could make his own album and promote it?

She had no management when she signed that contract. Roc Nation hipped her to game and now she sees all the bullshyt that its in her contract and wants to renegotiate.

Label told her:camby:

What i’m confused about is how/why she signed with TWO labels in the first place:wtf:
Probably one person with no resources “discovered” her and eventually took here somewhere else that was able to get her off the ground
