It didn't sound like a joke to me if you read it right. He's saying 'there's something in the water' which in this case has a double meaning. "There's something in the water is a saying for something being odd and off and in this case its why are the Loins all time greats retiring so earl. And of course we know the water is poisoned in Flint.
:dame:

oh is that what it means :ohhh:

:martin:

dont know whats worse, you thinking he wasnt trying to play off the catch phrase and also hint at the Michigan water problem

or you thinking people dont know the meaning of the phrase "Theres something in the water" :dead:

Let's not act like this isn't Megatron's own fault for signing a 7 year extension with the Lions of all organizations. He could've became a free agent and got similar money basically anywhere else and not had to play for that wretched team anymore. Dude made his own bed.

Got a homie that knows Barry n his fam. Said Barry doesn't even wanna talk about football really would rather talk about music.

Probably doesn't love it anymore.

It's tough for the average person to understand when everyone would love to be a professional athlete but I can see how doing something your whole life, from childhood till about 30 you just get tired of it (especially as taxing and time consuming as pro sports). Look at Jordan, Mayweather, Robert Smith, Barry......They all retired from 28-30. I'm sure for Robert smith and Calvin the risks weren't worth it......but it was evident in Jordan, Mayweather and Barry they lost their love for it. Mayweather fukked his money up during his first retirement and he clearly came back just to scoop a bunch of checks.......Jordan somehow found an edge in being doubted that he could come back.

Not that I came in here to argue with you but I question the validity of this statement.. I thought MJ retired cause his dad died and he felt some type of way then decided he wanted to test his hand at his other childhood passion.. but missed the game too much and knew he had a few years left.. and when did mayweather ever retire? he never made any real money before the Oscar fight, shyt people aint start payinf him attention on ppv until the Gatti fight, so what money did he mess up? and how long was this retirement?

MJ did retire because of his father's death but he stated in his 1993 retirement video he lost his love for it and had nothing to prove.

Floyd Mayweather's first retirement was 2 years. He retired after the Ricky Hatton fight in 2007. He was scheduled to fight Oscar the 2nd time in 2008 but backed out at the last minute. He had been talking retirement multiple times before he actually decided he didn't want to fight. Look at many of his fights/interviews from 06/07. He was talking retirement that far back.....Below is the letter he wrote in 2008 when he retired the first time.
Dear Media

It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message today. I have decided to permanently retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make as boxing is all I have done since I was a child. However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport. I have said numerous times and after several of my fights over the past two years that I might not fight again. At the same time, I loved competing and winning and also wanted to continue my career for the fans, knowing they were there for me and enjoyed watching me fight. However, after many sleepless nights and intense soul-searching I realized I could no longer base my decision on anything but my own personal happiness, which I no longer could find. So I have finally made up my mind, spoken to my family, particularly my mother, and made my decision. I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead, including the one right around the corner. But there comes a time when money doesn't matter. I just can't do it anymore. I have found a peace with my decision that I have not felt in a long time. Finally, I want to personally thank all of my fans for their loyalty and dedication as my career comes to a close. I always believed that their enthusiasm and support helped carry me to victory with every fight I ever had. It was a great joy to have fought for all of you. Now I hope you understand my decision and wish me well with the rest of my life.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Friday, June 6 2008

"I've been telling you for the longest that I'm getting tired," Mayweather said Friday, four weeks after he announced his retirement via a June 6 press release. "There's nothing more to be done."

"Every day, I was telling Leonard, 'I don't really want to fight,' " Mayweather said, in reference to discussions with his adviser, Leonard Ellerbe. "Leonard didn't really say much, because Leonard loves boxing. That's his passion, not sitting around on the phone, making deals all day. It's pretty easy now to make deals, when you've got the name Floyd Mayweather. But in the beginning, it was real, real tough."

IRS Ushering Mayweather Back Into Ring?

He had all types of tax problems in 2008 and 2009 which eventually lead to him coming back. He legit had to settle with the IRS that a portion of his Marquez money would go to the IRS before the fight even happened. We've all known about Floyd's lifestyle of overspending since day one but one of his assistants told the story of how he got conned out of 15 million as well.

I don't know how you see it but if you've been following Boxing & Floyd since the beginning it's been clear that guy hasn't loved boxing for a long time and is truly has been doing it for the money. Can't tell you how many times he's said he doesn't love boxing anymore in FightHype videos......

EXCLUSIVE: Bizarre world of Floyd Mayweather, by his right hand woman

But she says, the star had his ups and downs, and the money began to consume him.

'He's always had wealth, but he used to say, 'I'm a thousand-aire now but when I become a millionaire…' and when he became a millionaire he'd say 'when I become a billionaire…'.

'It just escalated and he'd always say more money more problems and that actually came true, I witnessed it first hand.'

The worst of his problems came in 2008 when Mayweather faced a series of financial disasters.

That same year the sportsman publicly announced his retirement from boxing - only to be sensationally duped by a conman called 'Three comma Joe' in an elaborate scam.

The alleged fraudster convinced Mayweather to hand over a staggering $15million to him for a get quick rich scheme.

Mayweather was told it would make him a $5 billion return. Unsurprisingly the man ran off with his cash.

Weeks later burglars robbed his luxury mansion in Vegas stealing an estimated $7million in jewelry alone.

The IRS were also chasing him for an unpaid $6.2 million tax bill.

Tasha said: 'It was a tough time for Floyd. The biggest blow was being scammed out of $15million.

'Floyd met with a group of middle-men who introduced him to a guy called Three Comma Joe.

'He was impressed by Joe, he came in with the flossy blonde girl, he wore a nice big icy watch, he had the flash and Floyd was like, 'that's my kind of guy'.

'After the deal was done they shook hands and began to hang out a lot, they were inseparable.

'Floyd wired $15million to a Canadian bank account and he was told to see a return very soon.

'But eventually Joe left Vegas and stopped returning phone calls, and the money train came to an abrupt halt. Nobody could find Joe, and no one could find Floyd's money.

'Not the $15 million Floyd originally invested, and definitely not the $5 billion he was promised to make in return. Life in the Mayweather camp got really nasty for everybody.'

Tasha tells how furious Mayweather hired a team of private investigators to look for Three Comma Joe.

And she says at one point he took her, his girlfriend and two burly security men on a failed mission to retrieve his missing cash from Joe's attorney's office in Vancouver.

By the time she stopped working for him, Mayweather had not seen a cent of the $15million.

Around the same time, in August 2008 Mayweather's home was robbed and the thieves stole $7 million in jewelry.

The series of events deeply affected Mayweather – voted the world's highest-paid athlete for 2011, 2012 and 2013 by Forbes - and he was forced to come out of retirement to 'maintain the lifestyle he had', says Tasha.

Didn't fully expect him to retire now. He could have had a few more very good seasons at a different team but I guess he has enough money for life and let's be real, the risks of NFL and head trauma makes you question whether it is something you want to do for a long time.

I have heard him hint at retirement after damn near every fight after the de la Hoya fight but it never felt like it was more than a few years I between fights and I honestly never heard about any of this. That would explain why he has been so boring tho.

I know that's why him and 50 fell out, cause they agreed to start a promotion together before he went to jail and after 50 put up the money he backed out, I hope he is investing in something so he can stay paid
