How many SFs are equipped to play point forward? Why are you making anomalies at the position's history a standard?
That position is primarily for scorers yet you want Melo to play Pip, Bron, Bird rather than Gervin, English, King, Dantley, Aguirre, Erving, Worthy, Pierce etc it's always been.
Pierce, English and Worthy have seasons where they averaged more than 4apg

Doc did it in the ABA as well, the rest of the dudes you named are one way players that didn't win shyt and of them only Gervin was maybe viewed as a star and realistically he played the 2 in the NBA. I would cut Melo some slack if he were a good-great defender, but all he can do is score and nothing else, and you copping pleas for him? He's supposed to be a superstar, his usage rate is absolutely ridiculous for how few assists he gets.
You're trying to paint it out as passing is some unique skill to just the all-time great SFs, nah fam, sorry but Melo ain't getting off that easy. With how much he has the ball he should be getting assists by sheer accident, but apparently setting up your teammates is only something the greatest SFs do? Please explain Hedo Turkoglu, Grant Hill, Gordon Hayward, Paul Pressey, Stephen Jackson, Tracy McGrady (Houston), Jamal Mashburn, Chris Mullin and Nicolas Batum averaging 5 or more apg in a season from the 3 spot. I mean, you got goddamn power forwards like Blake Griffin (THIS YEAR) and Antoine Walker who are better passers than this dude and yet again neither have the ball nearly as much as him.
He's a one dimensional player, enough with the excuses for his game, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to get 5apg when plenty of other players who have had the ball much much much less than him can do it.
