I don't care how Carmelo performed in the Olympics, that isn't the NBA, his play there doesn't affect his contract. And no matter how much he falls in line he will never be 1/10th as good defensively as Kawhi, the Spurs entire defense is based around Duncan and Kawhi, you can't just remove their best perimeter player and replace it with a dude who doesn't play defense half as well and expect them to not skip a beat, they'd be a worse team with Carmelo PERIOD. They don't need his offense, they absolutely need Kawhi's defense and athleticism on the wing.

Put Kawhi on the Knicks and the Knicks are a playoff team. Put Melo on the Spurs and they're still a playoff team but not a contender. Let's just take shooting.

Kawhi leads the fukking NBA in 3pt-shooting right now at 48%. And that's taking 4 a game too. 90% of the NBA isn't shooting 48% on their threes even if you leave them wide open on every shot.

Kawhi is shooting 88% on free throws right now. That's top-10 in the entire league. Only forwards above him are Dirk and Durant, two of the greatest-shooting forwards in NBA history.

It doesn't matter how good your teammates are, you ain't shooting 48% on threes and 88% on free throws unless you have some serious skill. Especially as a forward.

Then add in the defense...you can't watch the man play and not realize that he is one of the greatest, if not the the greatest perimeter defender in the game right now. Coaching helped make that happen, but coaching can't turn just anyone into the #1 vote getter on the All-NBA Defensive team, and whether coaching helped him get there or not, you can't deny that that's where he is.


If "anybody" could do what Kawhi is doing right now with the right coaching, then when hasn't HOFer Ginobli ever had a season like this in all his years with Pop, Duncan, and Parker?

Right now, Tony Parker is an aging and average point guard playing 27 minutes/game and Duncan/Ginobli are off the court more often than they're on it. Aldridge is averaging 17 and 8 in 30 minutes a game. The 2nd-most played lineup for the Spurs doesn't even have Duncan or Ginobli in it, and Kawhi's still dominating whether they're on the court or not.

You can't seriously claim, "Kawhi is a dominant defender because he gets to be on the same court as Parker and Aldridge".

Kawahi is not better than melo and If he was on the nuggets, Philly, or ny he would get exposed.
Kawahi is the other ai like Andre igoudala, period.
Stop buying into the media hate fest for bron and over processing the NBA finals MVP because you wanna feel vindicated like some errant sportswriter.
Who feels great because they picked the guy who played defense on bron, in the finals.
Complete with no real rim protectors and a miniball under coached under staffed roster and squad with the film equipment manager as a coach.

I got a strange feeling Carmelo is gonna be the Iverson of this era. Overrated as fukk cause fatherless niccas like his nickname and the fact that he get's empty buckets while having no game impact.

Iverson for the most part didn't get empty buckets though, and had a huge impact in every game he played in his prime. When Melo wins an MVP and single handedly wills an extremely limited and overmatched team to the finals I'll agree with the Iverson comparison.

Plus Melo seems more than content to get paid and waste his career in NY, I've never seen a player with more heart and who wanted to win more than Iverson.
