This. I was just saying this to myself earlier. A lot of smart people play problem-solving critical video games. Not games like nba2k GTA or madden.I game a minimum of 3 hours a day. I got no day job. I run a comic book business and make hundreds of thousands a year. Sometimes I buy games just to figure out WHY it had success even though I know I will not like it. Gaming has inspired me to not only create dope content but also problem solve like a muthafukka. Gamers are significantly smarter than non-gamers on average because of constant problem solving skills being used and mastered.
So you automatically assume people that enjoy video games are neckbeardsDude....I'm a developer as well and been making $750 a day for the past year and a half. 2 hours a day gaming is absurd, I don't give a flying F what the neckbeards here have to say.
If one has a family/kids that's damn negligence.
If you're single and your 20s that's still a stupid way to spend your time. Talking about how other people choose to waste your time doesn't make spending 2hrs a day gaming sound any better. Btw we all know you play at least 3-4 hrs. Never EVER seen a gamer that wasn't off by 1.5-2 the amount they play.
Those 2 hrs would cost me near $200. Would much rather spend my time learning some other aspect of my job so I can stay relevant and line up my next contract. It's one thing if you played that much 2-3 times a week but everyday that's just dumb.
Btw I get it, not everything has to be about productivity. My vice is weed, which I don't smoke a lot of (3-4 puffs) but I'm convinced that alone knocks out 1-2hrs a day off my productivity. Problem is I don't act like it's not a problem.
I would much rather smoke 2-3 times a week, but I can't do that as I don't have that self control, it's either smoke everyday or go cold turkey. I think a lot of gamers (like yourself) have to go cold turkey as well as yll be tweaking if you fingers aren't click clacking on keyboard.
I'm going to go against the grain here and say, video games are a terrible 'hobby'. I used to play once a week/fortnight, but seeing my siblings spend hours upon hours on it every day turns me off so much, I haven't played in a couple months. This is even after spending 4.5k on a specced out gaming rig, I've spent less than 10 hours playing games over the last 3 months.
It sounds cliche but video games are a total waste of time in every sense of the word. Unlike gardening, programming, doing something technical, writing, creating video content, woodworking...video games benefit absolutely no one but yourself AND the time you spend playing doesn't 'compound'...being great at one game doesn't make you better in another OR help you out in other skills OR bring you income once you spend 10k hours playing (please save your dignity and don't come at me with esports). Any of the other skills, if you spend the amount of time the average gamer spends on his 'hobby', you could easily sell your skills/start a business.
Video gaming is a very selfish hobby and one that people should tread carefully.
Let me clarify this with this point: It all depends on the time you spend playing. Research shows the average gamer spends 7-8 hours a week, that's a freaking full days of work! Total waste of time.
Some guys try to make gaming sound like a 'hobby' when it's actually an addiction.
A 'healthy' gamer imo is someone who plays 3-4 hours a week MAX and NOT every day. Doing something every day is not just a hobby, it's a 'habit' . And gaming is a bad habit. There are tons of other hobbies you can choose where the more time you spend on it, you can reap the rewards in the future.
