If we're being honest, They got the hottest acts from the drill scene. 41, and Fivio, and Sleepy.

And Cash Cobain who has the song off the moment.

Lola Brooke was there, minus Lil Tjay and Sheff(who wasn't there, cause of legal reasons). All the Artists that do some decent numbers were there.
Just go full local with it

Tf do NY care about Doja Cat

he's not even from oakland:skip: he was born and raised in sacramento.

it's crazy how NY's hip-hop scene fell off. i like a boogie but they don't have anyone else. kendrick took the KONY crown a decade ago and still holding it.
Nicki, Cardi, A$AP Rocky, A boogie, Lil Tjay, 50, Nas could have all headlined this shyt

Kendrick ain’t king of shyt he isn’t moving the needle with an NY/NJ urban demographic you never hear dude outside here and that’s not someone the youth and young adults listen to either although he’d put general mainstream fans in the seats

Summer Jam stopped mattering when New York rap music stopped.

And the fact that they had to get Doja Cat to be the main headliner is :snoop:

And this is coming on the heels of the hip hop anniversary last year.

They couldn't get Nas, Fabolous, Jay Z, 50 Cent... none of the OG's to come through.

How you gonna have a show that has Sexxy Redd and Big Daddy Cane on the list :dead:

Not to mention, they went from having this in a stadium to a little ass arena. They couldn't even book the Garden.

They started doing stadiums in like 2003.. the first 10 years was in arenas.. hell, the first I went to was in 1994 with Wu, Tribe, Nas, Queen Latifah, Black Moon and it was in New Jersey..

Yeah I know. It’s just an indication of how NY hip hop fell off badly. It progressed from arenas to stadiums and back to arenas. They can’t even provide 100% New York artists. Haven’t been able to for a long time now.

They could do a full on NY show easily but there’s politics to abide to has nothing to do with NY “falling off”

I think it’s an indication how hip hop fell off overall

You got Future, Lil Baby, Wayne,21 Savage etc canceling and struggling on their tours.

There just isn’t any big stars from this era who can help sell out a stadium outside of Kendrick and Drake

Future and Wayne are in their 40’s. Lil Baby and 21 Savage don’t have nowhere near the amount of hit records.

There’s no new infusion of artists. Which is why someone like Drake lasted this long. And it’s also why artists like a Cardi B, can come onto the game without having to write her raps and still blow up. This new generation of fans as well as most artists don’t have any code.

Rap is basically pop music now.

Because in 2006 they decided that they no longer wanted to push NY artists. That had long term effects on the region. Most of these drill rappers are not stars. Let’s keep it real.

They know Meth as the lawyer on Power…

Kids in my sister’s age group missed out on goofy, cartoonish, weed smokin Method Man and Redman.

By then, Red was a victim of the Jay-Z era of Def Jam where he didn’t promote a lot of his peers unless u was cool with him.

They were the black Cheech and Ching.

It was weird to put Method and Red in that lineup anyway. They stick out like a sore thumb

They should have kept going with the movies…

Red and Meth would better known in black comedy since music ain’t selling.

Kids definitely didn’t have their parents playing Malpractice and Muddy Waters

I dont think its just cuz NY fell off but becuz terrestrial radio is dead in 2024. In 2003 radio was more important and influental.

Today, with internet and
a whole nother way of getting media they're not gonna get nowhere near the same traction. Hot 97 especially has been real real bad
as far as their internet game.
