It's a valid concern imo. Unless finally consoles are getting patches at the same time
Version control isn't that difficult. Likely they would just release patches at the same time. There's no reason to patch one version of the software two weeks ahead of the other if it's going to force incompatibilities.

In reality people are playing rocket league at 4k 120fps on PC right now against people on ps4 with with no problem.

It'd be nice. Essentially this would solve a lot of the "Man I want ___ for PS4 but my friends are on Xbox.." and vice versa.
