Are they though? Xbox in terms of numbers is putting up their best numbers ever. The only people really upset there are the victims of their corporate greed the people disgusted by that and fanboys.

Honestly the market wants a monopoly. Sega learned that the hard way. The market just doesn’t want competitors in the home console arena. Nintendo had to pivot hard to survive. Sega like Microsoft infringed on PlayStation’s audience and that’s a losing strategy.
Sega "accidentally" released their sales figures for the last six years. They are doing very very well for themselves

...as a developer. The discussion here is platform holder. No idea why you are talking about Sega's recent sales figures.

Remember when phil warned us against big tech giants entering the Gaming space?

i mean, who knows what could have happened…they could have bought out a large portion of 3rd party development and had price hikes across the board, mass layoffs in the 10’s of thousands and forced gen Ai into all their games.

thank you, phil :whew:
The biggest irony about the article is how things turned out:

  • Google came in OD confident with the Stadia despite not having any first party title ready and relying on third party, got exposed with the Stadia bombing and gave up on the spot.
  • Amazon said, they're p*ssy and won't look at the console market.
  • Meta was only looking at the market because they wanted ABK, but once Microsoft got ABK, Meta was out of the question.
  • Microsoft not learning from their past mistakes while making new ones on top of being more worried about the first three, than Nintendo and Sony is what got them the most. Along with wasting money getting ABK and ZeniMax that amount to nothing for Xbox in the end with Gamepass adding insult to injury.

For all the metrics the shareholders care about and Nadella cares about Spencer and Co are hugely successful. At this point Spencer is just there to execute Nadella and Hood’s plans.

Xbox is where they want it to be. They’ll continue to cut jobs and grow revenue. They don’t really care about how the hardware does outside of growing Game Pass some as their plan is to put their software anywhere people play games.

We might look at these people as failures but they’re actually successful.

Sega wanted to succeed and failed. They kept tossing out hardware trying to get something to stick. They exited the hardware business as they didn’t have much choice.

Microsoft came to the conclusion that putting their software on every available platform is more profitable than a walled garden and they gobbled up entire publishers on the way.

The situations don’t really compare. Ultimately Xbox and Windows will likely fuse and they’ll still have a toe in the hardware game. Sega is honestly never really gonna do hardware again.

They are laying off 9000 employees, but allegedly requesting 14k H-1B visas with the federal government.

I'm about 90% convinced Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and the rest of the Xbox management charlatans are drinking buddies with some Microsoft executive or shareholder.

Because almost any competent company would have fired the charlatans a long time ago.

Complete cronyism up and down that pyramid.

Microsoft came to the conclusion

The mustard put on this one. :dead: SEGA had to but somehow MS didn't and merely came to the conclusion. :dead:
