Microsoft’s businesses are always intertwined.

People take individual products and wanna scrutinize, but to microsoft it’s all one end goal.

Xbox live led to “the cloud” being a thing. Which is now their most significant money maker. It would not exist without the OG work on xbox live.

Zune led to the microsoft store being a thing. The microsoft store is now a significant money maker.

Their first foray into A.I. was game development tools.

Xbox builds relationships and serves as a technology incubator, and at this point they’ve gotten it to be a significant portion of their revenue.

Xbox serves its purpose for microsoft without winning the “console war”

You’re 100% correct that this is the mentally. I’ve worked for another big tech company for almost 6 years and that is usually the mindset.

There’s so much money backing initiatives that if it fails, we learn a valuable lesson. The initiative actually working out is usually a cherry on top

That's 3.5 AAA games a year that cost $100-$200 milly a piece to make. It's unsustainable and that's why other developers aren't putting their games on there. Game Pass is great for small developers but for the larger developers you're cannibalizimg sales when your base is conditioned not to buy games because they want it on gamepass.
Gamepass brings in 5 billion a year. They could fund lots more games than that.

Games like starfield and forza had Millions of premium addition buyers BEFORE the games even came out.

Nothing you guys repeat from your cult talking points lines up with reality:manny:

You keep bringing up this 5 billon revenue and what they can do but it's like you don't under that revenue and profit are 2 different definitions. They would have to make 5 billy for 15 years just to recoup the Activision money. The overhead to maintain those servers for Gamepass isn't cheap and I still haven't gotten into the cost of actually even developing a game. The price of Gamepass is going to increase in the next yr mark my words

I never said they were the same.

You talked about game development cost with relation to gamepass revenue. I simply said it could fund lots more games than what you posted.

Activision is an asset they own there is nothing to “make back” Activision prints money and is worth more now than it was worth when they purchased it.

And the activision purchase has NOTHING to do with gamepass sustainability.

The overhead to maintain those servers for Gamepass isn't cheap and I still haven't gotten into the cost of actually even developing a game.
The games are held on the same servers as the games for purchase. Gamepass adds no server cost, i’m not even sure why you wanna add that to gamepass cost, but even then it cost microsoft next to nothing to use their own cloud servers as needed.

And we did talk about game dev costs. You said 100-200 mil per game.

Seems there’s still a lot of meat on them $5 billion bones no matter what nonsense you try to fit into your story.

The price of Gamepass is going to increase in the next yr mark my words
The price of everything is going up. Very insightful prediction here :ehh:

Activision is a company they acquired which means they paid for it. It has everything to do with Gamepass since they use it to expand their outreach and base for their services There is money to recoup because you know they didn't just give it Microsoft out of the kindness of their hearts :hhh:

Do you know how much it truly costs to run a single server stack?! Microsoft has thousands of these across the world Again you keep saying everything is free and last I checked electricity isn't. Not to mention cooling the serves upgrades and repairs as well as the staff to maintain them.

It sounds like you have a very basic understanding of finances or how companies operate :scust:

Again. They own Activision. This is not the same as spending money on content for gamepass.

It is a money making asset.

The irony of you claiming i don’t understand finance but you can’t/dont/wont understand the difference between an investment asset and an expenditure:mjlol:

Again. The servers exist and are running with or without gamepass.

I’m not even sure how you are twisting your brain to think offering games on gamepass would somehow increase the server cost.

You clearly dont have a basic understanding about how technology works :lupe:

Price is going to increase or they'll time release AAA games or even just not have certain games on it all.

Honestly, not even worth talking about xbox anymore. They are Atari status

They’re just gonna flail about with different hardware iterations that no ones interested in over the next few years until they silently just become a dedicated 3rd party publisher

Now if they could just be trusted to be competent publishers...
