This was probably a hot take early Gen, but with MS shifting to focus on competing with AI giants the game division might not have the resources to survive as we know it

Microsoft’s businesses are always intertwined.

People take individual products and wanna scrutinize, but to microsoft it’s all one end goal.

Xbox live led to “the cloud” being a thing. Which is now their most significant money maker. It would not exist without the OG work on xbox live.

Zune led to the microsoft store being a thing. The microsoft store is now a significant money maker.

Their first foray into A.I. was game development tools.

Xbox builds relationships and serves as a technology incubator, and at this point they’ve gotten it to be a significant portion of their revenue.

Xbox serves its purpose for microsoft without winning the “console war”

Absolutely fukkin mind boggling :mindblown:
Meanwhile the brand is in the toilet lol

Hardware has failed, objectively, and you have charts that will show that as well

They have a war chest and spent enough to pivot to publishing to put on the service, that they also own

I think his credibility as a "gamer guy" is completely out the window

It’s obviously not.

Your sony stan bubble tells you things that aren’t true.

They got all types of hardware coming out.

3rd parties they never had before on xbox….including sony. :wow:

Xbox exists to make money.

Phil spencer was appointed to leader of xbox in 2017.

Xbox revenue has increased significantly every year since his promotion.

Only people wondering why he still has a job is those of you that don’t live in reality.

At ~ 35 million series XS consoles in homes.

The “xbox hardware has failed” narrative doesn’t really hold up to reality.

Xbox currently has more people actively playing and buying games on consoles than they ever had in the past.

I'm just surprised they haven't swapped him out I guess
Make it make sense?

Dude has more than doubled revenue since he took over and there’s more people playing on xbox console than ever before.

Without referencing console wars, why the hell would the microsoft CEO be unhappy with what he’s done so far?? :mindblown:

You're a legend Meach

Look, the line went up lol

How it went up, why it went up, what did that come at the expense of, what are the long-term ramifications?

These are all questions that may or not matter to the average consumer, and I doubt they matter to decision makers at the org when the stock is looking how it does. All of this shyt is reactionary

I think gaming as an industry is different, and the brand pivoted in a way that alienated most consumers. Fandom drives the gaming narrative. The entire business model of Xbox has reacted and fell forward. Maybe that merits him continuing, I don't think that it does

I think that there are brighter minds who can confidently speak to the public on what's happening over there and they can swap him out lol

You’re arguing with the one person about Microsoft’s vision that you shouldn’t :skip:.

The literal kickoff two weeks ago was all in on AI and cutting low performers. That doesn’t scream the modern gaming industry now does it? :pachaha:
