NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
For those of y'all asking "why was he SOO mad?!".

Being a coach in the NFL IS the pinnacle of coaching football. Being the coach of a storied and stable franchise such as the Pittsburgh Steelers is damn near icing on the cake. Anything less is simply a downgrade.

So everyone suggesting that this black man should take a demotion for a little more money, when he is already rich, is an insult.

I tell you one thing, his answer was essentially the culmination of dealing with racists fans and reporters for 10+ years:russ:

He could walk around wearing a "USC Is For Pussies" t shirt and they'd give him the job if he wanted it.

He seemed offended the the notion that him taking a college gig is plausible, and considering his resume, I'd understand why he'd be hot.
I get that, but being a major college coach in 2021 is different

It's not like the 90s where guys coached in college with hopes of making nfl coach money.

In his case, yeah if he got fired he'd easily get another head nfl job. I just felt his reaction was kinda a bit extra. It's not like this usc rumor has been doggin him for months and he finally had enough of it.

It's still inferior to being an NFL coach no matter how you look at it.

In college you can be the governor of the state. In the NFL you're always secondary to your QB, and with extremely few exceptions, are always a bad QB injury or misdraft away from being fired

Those perks mean nothing to someone like Tomlin with an established resume though. He would have countless NFL teams calling his agent down within 24 hours of him and Pittsburgh parting ways.

If these are actual deterrents, then why are so many NFL coaches staying in the NFL even after they get canned?

They'd rather become a defensive coordinator for the Vikings than take a head coaching gig at a big school.

College really isn’t a downgrade anymore… you gotta do more work, but you make more money, and get more respect if you win
