No way he was ever overrated, I don't think we'll see a QB with that speed and arm strength for a long time. His career was definitely disappointing, he was Johnny Manziel before Johnny Manziel :manny:

As exciting as Vick was in college....he couldnt fukk with Manziel. Now Manziel could very well be shyt in the pros. But in college it wasnt close.

Vick's career

Fr year 2065 yards 13 tds 5 ints 171.1 Rating 682 yards rushing 9 tds
So year 1234 yards 8 tds 6 ints 127.4 Rating 617 yards rushing 8 tds

Manziel

Fr year 3706 yards 26 tds 9 int 155.3 Rating 1410 yards rushing 21 tds
So year 4114 yards 37 tds 13 int 172.9 Rating 759 yards rushing 9 tds

Obviously Manziel played in a much system with Sumlin than Vick in Beamer. Obviously it was a different era in the late 90s/early 00s.

But dude went #1 throwing for just 8 tds his last year. :banderas:

Which again...was he overrated? Or were the glimpses in college so amazing that you thought if he could put it together that he'd be amazing.

Again....Manziel could be trash in the pros for all we know though.

:heh: You were not around when Vick played in the championship. Governors came out to see the game breh, Vick was otherworldly, the closest thing to Vick was probably Reggie Bush in college, he was so athletically dominant. Johnny Manziel has always had a big hype machine behind him, ESPN needs rating so they always find some hick QB to be the next big thing, they could give a f*ck about how bad he will be in the NFL because they just want to keep the college ratings up. Vick played in a different system, you can't compare college stats like that, it shows your lack of football knowledge, it's not the NFL

Bruh. I saw Vick damn near every game in college.

He was FAR ahead athletically. I'm talking about as a QUARTERBACK. He wasnt near Manziel.

Vick was the most exciting college player ever. However, he was not better than Manziel. They barely asked him to throw the damn ball in college.

I know Frank Beamer had a shyt system. Vick admitted to being very limited in college and not even going to his 2nd read or being able to handle complex route combinations or playbook in general.

One amazing college game against Florida State doesnt represent an entire career. Its the same with Vince Young vs. USC. Amazing, amazing game. However, that doesnt overshadow everything.

I still say Cam was better than all of them in college and he was just "meh" in his NC game.

ETA:

This goes back to the original discussion. Was he overrated or just disappointing?
No matter how you cut that shyt up. He threw 8tds and 6 ints. I saw him STRUGGLE throwing against TEMPLE in college. Who was fukking trash.

I was wrong for saying Vick couldnt fukk with Manziel in college. But Manziel was indeed better....in college.

He was drafted #1 based off his potential. Through his NFL career he only went on to throw for 3000 yards just twice in his career. And that came in a pass friendly offense with a ton of weapons.

Like others have said, I think it's a combo of both. He was always polarizing as a player. You don't play in the league as long as vick without knowing how to read defenses but I think he's horrible at blitz pickup & quick reads. He beat out foles in a fair competition last year & he had his struggles & pulled his hammy on a light jog. I think eventually he'll start this year for the jets.

In his atlanta days he was THE SHOW in atlanta, he was very enabled & didn't study the playbook & relied on his athletic ability.

Honestly I'm not worried about him as the football player. Its crazy how dude was crucified in the media & by fans(and sometimes still is) & he managed to turn it all around. He resurrected himself as a father & has a man, & he's made A LOT of money since coming outta prison along with paying off ALL his debts & legal fees.

White america(dog lovers) thought they emasculated him for good but overall life is more important than football & in my opinion Vick WON big time. Football wise without a doubt he has underachieved but this year with the jets is his last act as a starter at some point, let's see if he can make the most of it...

Vick was head and shoulders better then Manziel in college. What some of you smoking? The closest thing to Vick in college was my nikka VINCE YOUNG and REGGIE BUSH. I don't think Vick was overrated. Because he has all the skills. I think over hyped is the better word. There were plays in the NFL where Vick took your breath away. I saw Vick split two tacklers in the open field, with less room then a phone booth and take it 80 yards for a TD. fukking incredible.

Vick never head of ton of weapons, f*ck outta here. He had Roddy for only one year before the prison sentence. Manziel wasn't even clearly the best QB in college last year, I personally thought Bridgewater was a better QB :manny:, not to mention the receivers Manziel had :wow: Manziel's best years are behind him breh. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER VICK IN COLLEGE FB. The man had WR speed, Barry Sander's quicks and Dan Marino's arm. White America can put all the makeup it wants on Manziel's game, there's just too much ugly to cover up :wow:

And had shyt production his sophomore year :sas1: for a guy with all those attributes.

He had Roddy White for two years. So Roddy went from a 500 yard wr with Vick. But then became 1200 yard wr with Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwhich while Vick was in Leavenworth prison. :patrice:

Vick threw 21 touchdowns.....HIS ENTIRE CAREER in college. 21 touchdowns....is his CAREER HIGH in the NFL.
Only TWO 3000 yard passing seasons.

No one doubts his amazing athleticism, the plays he made that no one before or since could make.
Dont great QBs make their wrs better?

Now again....He practically wasnt even trying in Atlanta so....that speaks to his natural talent. Which is what makes him so disappointing.

Vick on talent level (POTENTIAL at least) should destroy damn near every QB in NFL or college history. Talent doesnt = production or best.

Breh. Did he not have a disappointing sophomore year or not? No one is saying Vick had to throw for 4000 yards? He became a worse passer his 2nd year in college.

He went from a 2000 yard passer with a QB rating of 171 and then became a 1200 yard passer and throwing in the 120s.

Hell he didnt have to have the same rating. But he had his issues that year.

Here is the trend that followed/PLAGUED Vick in college and the pros. Inconsistency.

2002 - Very good
(was hurt in 03)
2004 - No progression....team won a lot though.
2005 - the same kind of QB. No improvement
2006 - Rushed for 1000 yards. But his accuracy was getting worse

2010 - Lights up the league. Incredible
2011 - Regressed. Just good
2012 - Awful
2013 - Pretty good till he got hurt.

Vick never had back to back great seasons in college or the pros. Never went to the playoffs back to back years. In college teams seemed to figure out Vick a bit more. He was hampered by his ankle against Miami and didnt play the whole game. But he didnt improve.

You're supposed to get better and never really did.
