I thought a lot of his later work wasnt good. It was just too all over the place. It had no theme and nothing i could grab on to. Just a bunch of trumpet gymnastics with no real melody for me to jam to.

Interesting considering he grew up in a wealthy and privileged home. He is like that song "Super Rich Kids" that smash daddy's luxury automobile.

Miles' family was wealthy in comparison to the majority of what Black people had or didn't have back then but he wasn't a Rockefeller now. It wasn't like he was some brat running around without a care in the world. Although they had money, he and his family still had a lot of trails and tribulations they had to over come because they were Black. Having money back then didn't just automatically put someone who was Black into the likes of the world that Whites operated in because Blacks were still viewed as less than equal.

On scale for those days in times he was basically Carlton from the Fresh Prince to JJ from Good Times. He was not of the people like many think. No big thing...just a point.

Really?

My favorite from his 80's output is "You're Under Arrest". I really like that album.

Miles has always said that people didn't get the direction he went into later. He says in the autobiography that he wanted to start paying more freely, and that that's where his music took him. He was also playing with tons of different versions of his bands, so he went experimental during that period. It's still good music, just a different lane so to speak, than what he did in the 50's and 60's.

Where I shouldn't be
I've owned two copies of his autobiography and I've read it at least five times. :youngsabo:

There's always room to appreciate "old news", especially if a lot of people still don't know his importance in music history.

Anyone that knows about Miles is a friend of mine, I listen to Seven Steps to Heaven or Quiet Nights at least four times a week to work...GOD's MUSIC. :lawd:

Same here, :salute::myman:

Miles was truly an extraordinary talent. Dude's talent for music was from another planet. His use of timing in his music was just genius.
