Karume knows what he's talking about. Take the DLAB if you think you are eligible for a TS clearance. The contractors who are guaranteed a payday are the GOOD linguists. Note i say good. I took the test but i wasnt really trying to spend 2 years learning a hard language. They have like a 60% wash out rate for the school.

I scored just short of a category IV language(like arabic, chinese, korean). my problem was that I am color blind. color blindness prevents entry into any of the military intelligence occupations. I am still upset about that to this day. they were offering a $40,000 reenlistment bonus for people willing to learn korean at the time.

Occupations where you can acquire either a secret or more preferably top secret clearance. Also occupations that will translate easily into the civilian world.

Hopefully be able to get out, have the TS clearance and eat well off some contractors.

Wanna get stationed outside the US though, really wanna go to Japan or South Korea or something like that.

im 4Y and this career is for the birds :beli:

shyt will net u 15$ hour job on the outside :heh:

What do you guys think about the National Guard? You think it'd be worth it since it's only part time? And also do you think it's worth it if you can't get a job with a security clearance?

Money breh. Trying to hop into a new MOS if possible so I can get a better civilian job :manny:

I dont know what research you have already done but I will give you the benefit of my experience...

first you need to determine how far you are willing to travel for weekend drill. typically when you go to MEPS they will only pull up positions in units that are within approx 50-60 miles of you. the primary reason being that the army reserves doesn't pay you(or at least didnt when I was in) for travel costs to and from drill. you can choose to go beyond that radius if you want but again the costs are on you. the farther away you have to go for drill the more likely you wont want to go home on saturday nights which means spending money for a hotel which isnt too bad if you split a room with someone else which is what I used to do. I was able to get rooms with a military discount and no tax.

once you determine units in your travel radius then you need to find out what MOSs they have. since you mentioned switching you need to consider length of the corresponding AIT. while you can go through a regular recruiter it is probably better to contact the unit directly. Most units have retention NCOs who in some cases can help you get into a unit that may not currently have an official opening.

army national guard gets the exact same training active army and army reserve gets. you go to the same basic training and get the same MOS training. the main difference between the national guard and the reserves has to do with educational benefits. in the past NG would get tuition payments and special grants in some cases where as the reserves got loan repayment. you would have to look into what distinctions there are now. I guess I should add that by definition NG are state troops whereas reserves are federal troops.

for a lot of people besides the school money the actual drill pay could cover a car payment or even rent.

why do you think you cant get a job with a security clearance? presuming you dont have a criminal past it isnt that difficult.

Im trying to sign u as Coast Guard I hear its difficult to get in

is the p*ssy in there worth it?

but seriously what do Coast Guards demand
I have a Diploma, but no college credits
clean background record, physically fit

From what I've read it's really competitive. They say
The realistic time span for getting in is 6-18 months. I guess it depends a lot on the location of your recruiting office. I'm taking my ASVAB and MEPS Physical next week for it. If all goes well lik my recruiter is talkin about goin to bootcamp in November. If all goes well then will only be 4 months from the time I first talked to a recruiter to the time I leave for bootcamp. :yeshrug:

I have a marijuana possession charge so I can't get a clearance :to: I would've tried to join the regular Army but I can't cuz of the charge too.

So I'm not sure if it's really worth joining since I wouldn't be able to get any good jobs or jobs I'm interested in. Plus I dunno National Guard just seems kinda quasi-military to me.
