Good thread.
I’ve traced my family roots as far back as possible and they were descendents of slaves from Texas, Georgia, and Mississippi. I’m full African American outside of a few white people in my fam from the 30’s and 40’s. I look black, not light skinned at all, yet I’ve gotten sooooo many questions about where I’m from.
Growing up in Atlanta, I’ve been asked if I’m Dominican or Cuban, Ethiopian, middle eastern a few times, and part Native American a bunch too.
Now I live in Spain and get even more. Was talking to some African bruhs and they were asking me if I was Fulani. I’ve had other Africans see me and say Sudan....Ethiopia and give me dap. Walked into a Pakistani store and the dude yells “Saudi Arabia!!!!!”
I tell him America and the look on his face was like

.
I don’t understand it, I look African American as hell, I tell everyone who asks that I’m a black American. I heavily identify as black or African yet I’ve gotten comments from black, white, Latinos, and Arabs that think otherwise.
My family started as slaves and built their own farms and made a life for themselves....no idea why people think I’m something else.
