nah basketball is as popular now as it’s ever been

off topic how long were you banned for?

I was banned for 2 weeks.

Back to the topic. How can you say basketball is as popular as ever now when there is no tangible evidence supporting it?

Are ratings higher than they were the last 15 years? Sure. But they are no where close to the ratings in the 90s. Once again you can't just say something is the case with no evidence.

The Yay
the issue is that moreso that fans are bored seeing a pitcher/batter taking pitches/pitching around

but would people be that much less bored if those balls/strikes were replaced with weak grounders or can of corn popups ?

Im never really for artificial offense pumping, which is what people really want

the issue is that in an era where people are so used to instant gratification and instant entertainment, they basically want to remove any aspect of sports that doesnt involve instant scoring/excitement
in any sports that involves buildup, its never a good idea imo.

like, people love themselves some nfl redzone, but I never really liked it as a hgue football fan...because it only shows parts of the movie, and you never get to see the big picture yet fans will front like theyve actually seen the game.

As a thought excercise I'm trying to figure out whether I'd rather be locked in a room with no phone or any other form of diversionary stimuli, given a drug that prevents sleep, strapped to a chair and forced to watch either a MLB or WNBA triple header

Think I'm having a panic attack just reading this

late 90s/early 2000s baseball >

i used to actually watch baseball tonight with karl ravech, harold reynolds and peter gammons back then

Barry in san fran, griffey/arod/edgar martinez/randy johnson in SEA, the rockies scoring 10+ runs every game at coors, maddux/glavine/smoltz in ATL, stacked yankees squads, tony gwynn/vlad guerrero's wizardry at the plate, pedro, clemens, kkkurt schilling's wizardry on the mound etc

I haven't paid attention to baseball in years ... major league players are really on pace to have more strikeouts than hits? :dwillhuh:

i cant believe they havent instituted a pitch clock. 20 seconds max. They were talking about that back in the 90s. Speed the game up

They also need to outlaw chewing tobacco. One of the reasons i stopped watching baseball over 10 yrs ago was all the spitting. Im siuting at home trying to eat i dont wanna watch everyone spitting in between pitches

We also need an official mlb game released simultaneously on all systems, just like 2k. Thats how we stay up on the players, havent played a mlb game since 2012

Pitch clock has nothing to do with baseball being as bad as it is now. Analytics has been a burden on the game and has taken skill out of it. Watch a game and you'll see what I'm talking about. No one can hit the opposite way. No one can bunt against a shift when the defense is literally giving it to you. No one steals anymore like they did back in the day. Nerds who can't walk and chew gum have undid 150 years of what worked fine.

Seems without their steroids these guys have a hard time actually hitting the ball. Who knew?

False narrative. They're literally shattering records every month. It's an all or nothing league because of Manfred having the balls made differently after pitching dominated a few years ago.

And people forget that. Only a couple of years ago we were talking about the comeback of the pitcher and how KC was bringing back old school baseball because they didn’t hit home runs. What Manfred is finding out is that fans hate defense. There’s fans who love pitching duel, but this is a country which functions primarily on scoring and half of the aspect that makes baseball great is frowned upon. The shift has nothing to do with why players strike out, but it kills those extra runs.

I think the big problem with analytics is that all the teams have the same data and reach the same conclusion on what type of teams they need to build and how they need to play. It leads to every team playing the same way and removes the personality and clashing styles of play.

So in the NBA you get every team trying to play like the Warriors or Rockets removing the mid range game more and more. Hardly anybody attacks the offensive boards and has killed the fast break since teams focus so heavily on getting back on defense. Eventually going to see every team switching everything on defense.

The Warriors do run a better offense than the Rockets though. Their cutting motion offense is pretty damn good. The problem is two, well shyt now 3, generational shooters on the same team.

Oh I agree fully. The problem is that every team wants to copy that not realizing they don't have a Steph, Klay or Durant. In the past you'd have more teams saying I got these big men so I'm just going to cancel that out by beating that ass on the inside. Now you even got teams like the Pelicans with two great big men playing outside in.
