But I'm thinking ESPN values that Malika does other things that adds more value. She actually is on the road constantly covering the NBA, has her own show (even if it's subpar), also does some reporting on NBA news as well, also does one on one interviews with players, etc

I don't think you're getting it. ESPN values the different areas they can put you in and how "versatile" you can be. I've even seen Malika Andrews on the beat like a journalist asking NBA players questions. Looks like they are trying to make her into a secondary Brian Windhorst.
