Kendrick is a hell of a SONGWRITER.
Big difference in a songwriter and a lyricist.
Ab-Soul is a better lyricist than Kendrick by leaps and bounds. But Kendrick is a better songwriter than Soul.
Lupe is a HELL OF A LOT better lyricist. Kendrick MAY be a better songwriter. Lotta Lupe's stuff comes off corny. But he got some hellafied songs.

Look at the arguments you get because Pac wasn't a top notch lyricist. "Itty Bitty Kitty Drinking Liquor From His Momma's Titty"? I've seen dudes try to make themselves sound smart in front of chicks talking about how they be chillin, listening to Pac's outstanding use of "alliteration".
VERY few Pac stans have I seen make the argument that Pac was one of the greatest rap songwriters who ever lived. Not "storyteller", SONG WRITER.
Cause you can't call Pac a Super Duper Lyrical nikka, Pac fans are easily backed into a corner when confronted about why he's GOAT. "Cause he had the east coast shook" "cause he was the next malcolm x" "the government was scared" "he'll beat you up"
That's what you getting with this Kendrick thread right now. No offense to anybody, but it's what happens when your musical tastes are defined into thirds: beats, lyrics, popularity.
You have no idea how to define songwriting or know how to recognize a good songwriter without falling back on "storytelling".
