THE EAST VS WEST WAR........THERE WAS NO WAR. IT AS BIGGIE VS PAC. AS FAR AS EAST VS. WEST, THE WEST WAS CLEARLY ON TOP DURIN THAT PERIOD, AND THE EAST WAS GOIN AS FAR AS TRYNA JOCK OUR SOUND.

It was even 2pac vs Biggie. It was 2pac vs. Henchman, Tut & Jack. The nikkas he adored and tried to mimic. Suge also ended up having issues with them once his boy died at one of Bad Boy's party in late 1994 or somewhere 1995, which is part of where 2pac & Suge became so tight came in at. 2pac was just an artist. Biggie aint have shyt to do with it nor Puff.

tupac, nas and the fugees had 96 on lock, followed by ghost, busta rhymes, outkast, xzibit, jeru and mobb deep. as far as jay goes, people barely noticed he existed :manny: and that's not even hating on jay, reasonable doubt was a good album that deserved more recognition, but it was overlooked in '96.
The NY Hip-Hop fan-based knew Jay and acknowledged that he was an emerging star and supported his music. Jay even had renowned producers and artists whom have helped him create his classic debut. Therefore, he wasn't a nobody. He actually had enough clout and the support from NY Hip-Hop market that elevated him to success in 1996. An artist can't sell a gold album and a gold single if he/or she isn't known. Like I said before Jay just didn't have the huge stardom like Tupac and Snoop at that time, but he was hot enough to break through the mainstream and achieved success.
There were no "GOATS" when Pac died. That conversation wasn't even taking place yet because it was still the tail end of second gen as far as Emceeing goes.
Exactly. Nobody was calling Biggie GOAT either when he was alive. Death lifted Pac's and Biggie's rap career into an incomparable legacy. I remembered it was a sin to compare any rapper to Big and Pac after they were killed. nikkas would have chopped your head off if you dare say a rapper is better than Big and Pac.

The Documentary isn't a classic album. It's a run of the mill Aftermath G - Unit album with the 50 Cent formula. And I had the album when it came out. The Game name drops so much that til this day he fails to have his own identity because all he does is rap about golden era rappers or references

Documentary album was just "hey I was influenced by jay nwa biggie pac nas" repeated throughout

YEA I KNOW THE STORY, BUT IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS, IN TERMS OF RAP, IT WAS 2PAC VS. BIGGIE........EAST VS WEST WAS OVERBLOWN.

This is true. The backpacker nerd rap fans didn't like DMX because they felt he was too gimmicky. I remember them days. But they would say "Jay is good" but "DMX is a hack" was pretty much the theme for the Sage Francis, Atmosophere/hip Hop Infinity crowd. Aka nikkas that don't get p*ssy brigade.

True, BUT it wasnt like them nikkas didnt say the same about Jay. They felt Jay was talented as an emcee, but he was rapping about materialistic things which doesnt appeal to that crowd. And also the fact that some of them would feel like he was mimicing Biggie's style, who btw also caught alot of heat back then for that "Puff sound" and things he rapped about. Ask nikkas now and nikkas and it basically fits this thread..

I dont know why nikkas gotta say that p*ssy thing about the underground fans tho. Im not a super undergroud but still. If you listen to particular music to get p*ssy then you a lame imo (just in general, not you).

Something I see on here a lot is that the "Massacre" was a good CD.

Other than the unrelenting Gunit stans people were only feeling like 3 songs from Massacre

Now that I think about all the buzz 50 tried to create around the song "Piggy Bank" to promote the album was the beginning of his downfall.

Nah it wasn't the same. Even the most backpack of backpack by 2001 admitted Jay was nice not so much for X. Jay is more traditionally skilled than X and he wasn't gimmicky he was just very commercial. That Blueprint album really turned Jay into a rapper every facet of the genre loved.

X was more for street nikkas and commercial fans and SOME "not nerdy" underground heads. Jay was for everybody. Girls, street nikkas, nerds, hustlers, etc

And I'm not saying you need to listen to certain music to get p*ssy, really that phrase is just more of a term we use for nikkas that are usually socially awkward and outcast. Not that they literally don't get p*ssy lol.

This deserves its own thread but everyone was riding with 50 during the GRODT album cycle and after.

But he was creatively bankrupt by the time the Massacre dropped. "Disco Inferno" was street single that didnt do much then no one was feeling "candy shop" but it had the machine behind it.

So the closer to release date he started sending shots at Jada, Nas and Fat Joe then he started leaking how he had a diss record coming out and then Piggy bank and the vid dropped before the album everyone heard the song and went :beli:

biggie being nothing more then a local rapper :snoop:

Stop looking for sympathy nikka...the only person to say that was another east coast nikka (mega) when asked to put Big and Pac's legacy in proper perspective. Nobody on here or out in the world pumps that shyt as some kinda "fact" or even a widely held opinion.
