It'll never be the same

You can't incentivize people to see films in theaters anymore. The technology has removed the need for it and COVID sealed the deal

There might be a few tentpole releases here and there. That's really just a few weeks in the summer. Otherwise it seems like it's done honestly

The record store, the video store, the movie theater, physical media... It's sad because of what they represented but I don't see how this can be undone in any meaningful way. It's quite sad

Movies are getting released on VOD just 2 weeks after being in theater. There's a lot of popcorn movies that I'd watch pre-COVID that I'm just gonna wait for now.

Tickets are expensive, concessions are overpriced, trailers take 25+ min to roll, and the economy is in a blunder as is. The genie’s out of the bottle now with VOD and I don’t see the studios making any adjustments to the theatrical windows.

Longer windows would more than likely just shift those folks to wait it out even longer for streaming.

Folks will show up for films if they feel like an event though. Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Dune were that. Mickey 17, Companion, and Black Bag, as much as I do like them, are not that.
ALL of these ^^^.

last movie i saw was dune 2 and pre covid i would go to the theatre atleast twice a month. damn near every week from may through mid august. built a decent home theater and one thing that not many people talk about is the amount of content on streaming apps that satisfy that theatrical release thirst. might not be the exact same quality, but if i can stream prime/netflix/max series or movie like the gorge, with the rising prices of streaming, i'm good just waiting til a movie hits streaming or...other means.

bout to get worse too. it isnt official, but its basically already a recession in parts of this country. at the very least cautious spending. first thing you cut out is inessential expenses like movies.

and oh yeah, these incels and critical men bashers dont even date any more. the random movie date night is becoming extinct due to gender wars. you need teens and twenty somethings to push theater numbers. oh well, i had my run.

I dont think there was ever an incentive...it was just the only option. Like you said you will always have your big event movies people will flock to but you got so many other options for anything less than that. You get a new motion picture quality movie or series (long ass movie) every week. So you dont have to go to the movies for top notch entertainment. And then you blink and the big movies are streaming.

Going to the movies is an intentional choice now. Its all about the experience.
The thing that I wonder is what happens when the generation that grew up in streaming comes of age. Will that experience even matter to them anymore?

They're definitely not as packed as they used to be ever since COVID and a lot of movies don't really hit like before. This year looks like there's gonna be some bangers, but I haven't seen lines going out the door in a long time.

They would do well to lower their prices because the cost of confectionary is ridiculous. I could sneak in a whole hot meal under my coat for less lol.

I think Blockbusters are always gonna have a place in Theaters…. But them indie “I’m trynna win an Oscar” movies are done in theaters like that.

many of these small movies, I don’t mind watching at home. But not about to waste my time going to a theater to see

That's the real sad part IMO

Businesses failing are one thing, the human element that we lose when everything is online is another. A lot of memories were had at the movie theater

I don't think they will understand it at all, and will likely be concerned with different things and different changes relative to their experiences in the subsequent generations...
