OP has a point, General Audiences are not liking the selections and the numbers show it. The Holiday season wasn't too bad and had a lot of selections but overall they are saying 2025 box office will drop this year. "Streaming" is to "Theaters" what "Napster" was to "CD's/Music" what "Netflix" was to "Blockbuster". Theaters have survived a lot from Television even the early internet but now that's over. They have more competition now than ever before. I'd also throw in the smartphone too as to why Theaters numbers are dropping. There's an entire generation that doesn't care about watching movies on a small cellphone screen. I remember a director came out and said, "My Movies weren't meant to seen on a phone screen". I laughed because that's just not this generation. That was unheard of 20 years ago. Hollywood is clearly also to blame. They put all their chips into Comic Book/Superhero movies over the last 15 years since Marvel really blew.

I also felt oversaturation and fatigue would ruin that and it did but they got real high off those Marvel box office numbers. Along with remakes and reboots. Yes Nostalgia was able to keep the box office afloat but now that's not enough anymore. Even Marvel films are putting up average numbers. I predicted in 2013 that Theaters would basically be obsolete by early 2030's because I saw back then where this streaming thing was headed. Well it's moving even quicker than I expected. But no they won't be obsolete because "Mega Blockbusters" will draw audiences. Smaller films not so much. Therefor expect more sequels, reboots and remakes because studios are losing money left and right and will only go with a guaranteed IP. The Biggest movies of 2024 were all Sequels and Reboots. Expect the same for 2025. "Jurassic World" and "Avatar 3" will probably be the biggest movies of the year. This past weekend's box Office was the worst since the 1st Weekend of Covid 5 years ago. So we are back to square one.

Last year I started going back a little more because there were specific films I wanted to see. The Fam did drag me to see "Mario" and "Mufasa" but I was fans of those franchises so it wasn't a big deal. But I don't go as much as pre-Covid. But yes Streaming really changed the game. The Theater Window went from 9-12 months in the 80's and 90's to 6 to 9 months in the 2000 and 2010s to now 1-3 months today. You litterally just have to wait a month and the movie will mostly likely be on some POD or streaming service. I think Big Blockbusters and Computer Animated Kids Movies will always be able to generate dough. Look at "Mufasa", people thought it was going to flop but families made it the biggest movie of the holiday season. Smaller lower tier Action movies or Thrillers or horrors will have a harder time. This is why I was happy with "John Wick" and the 'Equalizer" franchises doing well the last decade in the mist of all the comic movies.

Back in 2018/2019 I was going to the movies at least once a week. I had a great time. I have always loved the movie-going experience. So many memories of women I use to date and just kicking it with friends.

The experience just isn’t the same anymore. People are rude as fukk; on their phones, sleeping, talking, just acting like they’re at home. shyt is annoying as fukk. Not only that, but the theaters themselves are all short staffed so it’s not like anyone in there is going to enforce anything. It’s a trash experience to me now, so I don’t waste my time anymore unless it’s something I REALLY want to see. Times have changed. So have the people.

The pricing model continues to be trash. Matinees aren't even worth going to now. Things come to streaming way too quickly. For example I watched Den of Thieves 2 in January it's going to be on Netflix I think this week/end. I wanted to check out the Queen of the Ring movie, barely any showings at any of my local spots. And then one is only showing it in the 21 & Up section. Which means that's an additional $10 on the ticket price. Which for that price I'd rather just wait for it to hit VOD.

Some people see movies as content. Some people see movies as an experience.
:patrice:
If you see movies as content, there are thousands of hours of content at your finger tips. Why leave your house?
:manny:
If you see movies as an experience, you will find your way to the movies.
:yeshrug:
Many people brought the experience to their homes, i.e. sound system, chairs, TV, and food.
:wow:
The box office receipts reflect what I’ve stated above. If you brought the last ten women you’ve fukked to you house to watch a movie, how many can enjoy the experience with you and not break out their phone? Maybe 3. Our attention span is shot. We experience content in chunks now. People have thrown a 90 minute experience to the bushes.

I think people are understating how trash movie releases are right now until the summer. The theater right across the street from me literally had to offer sale prices through April and drop concession prices to help drive revenue.

I think you should be afraid for all of Hollywood, I don’t think they can survive on only 2-3 huge movies a year and everything else underperforming.

This Month
Black Bag - 97% on Rotten Tomatoes,
Last Breath - 79% on Rotten Tomatoes,
Mickey 17 - 78% on Rotten Tomatoes,
Novocaine - 82 % on Rotten Tomatoes,

Last Month
Companion - 94% on Rotten Tomatoes,
Heart Eyes - 81% on Rotten Tomatoes,
Presence - 88% on Rotten Tomatoes

All these movies are bombs, and all these movies combined will make less than Captain America: Brave New World with its 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that movie is still a flop.

Audiences have absolutely no interest in new, quality original films. The would rather suffer through a mediocre superhero flick than even an original horror or action movie.

I saw almost all these movies (including Captain America) in theaters and almost every time my theater was dead.

If Sinners doesn’t completely blow the doors off I wouldn’t blame the studios for never green lighting an original film again.

Every one of those had a shytty ad campaign and are headed to streaming quickly. It is still the studios fault
