if she traces back to benin that means the ancestors she was stolen from are also there. it's never that simple. so you want to lump them in with the sellers or? paint everything with broad strokes brehs.
I actually do lump them in with the sellers. My ancestors were both the slavers and the enslaved. I recognize that fact as what the true history is. Yes, 9% of my DNA is from Benin.

There is no problem understanding the truth about your own ancestry, and choosing that you do not want to align with the part of your ancestry that is not to your liking. I also don't align with the White portion of my ancestry either, which were the purchasers and owners of my ancestors.

:mjlol:This won't pick up steam, The average Foundation Black American has no interest in "The Mudda land". It'll just be african countries giving money to washed up and delusional B list celebrities.
I disagree, have you been to a HBCU campus? It’s plenty kids attending college with a deep desire to be more connected with Africa. It’s not even a new trend

And then you got passport girls.

There are successful women taking off to Africa just to find a man. It rarely works out, but if she find a way over there, Amadou is going to make sure she has a good time :shaq:

Well, when you seek the truth instead of a false narrative, history becomes a lot easier to understand. Very convenient that way indeed. Also, stops those like you at the pass when you try to interject a paradox into an argument that actually does not exist.

I understand though, you probably think we are all ignorant of our own history and the history of our genetic ancestry.

As always, people find a way to bring negative energy into an act of reconciliation with our ancestry. I bet some would be happy if these black celebrities were finding their roots in some european country :skip:

Sad.

They are not offering us anything this is a ploy to drive investment in their country.

FBA/ADOS are better off investing in Detroit, Baltimore, coastal Georgia and South Carolina where the Gullah Geechee reside, etc. than anywhere in Africa.

this wouldn't make you ignorant just inconsiderate. i don't know what narrative is false exactly. you lost me there. maybe consider the same way you view everyone as guilty others don't. that's why they can travel and reconcile. i doubt she doesn't know the history of Benin. The ones i think are ignorant of history usually tell on themselves. they are in here and every Africa thread yelling tether this n that.

We are not "ignorant" we just don't want resources diverted to building up your homelands when we have pressing issues at home:yeshrug:

We believe in putting our people FIRST if that negatively impacts you that's not our problem :yeshrug:

Again nothing wrong with investing in foreign countries but the way these folks frame it as returning home is disgusting and disrespectful to your identity

How am I inconsiderate, when I am accepting my own ancestries' complicated nature? Oh, the false narrative is that the transactlantic slave trade was only done by White people running into Africa, and Africans, our ancient ancestors included, had nothing to do with it. That is the narrative that Pan-Africanist pushed, and some still believe.

Oh, I said nothing about her decision to go there, besides stating I hope she finds what she desires there, if she decides to stay there. It is her money and her life. My point in responding to you about the truth the other brother showed about the slave trading history of Benin was just me pointing out that I in particular, and many of us do, know that our ancestors were both victims and victimizers of the transatlantic slave trade. That we are not under any obligation to accept that part of our ancestry if that is not what we desire to do. Meaning, we don't have to forgive Benin if we do not want to, even though we are related to them. That also goes for any other part of our ethnic DNA that participated in our ancestors enslavement over here.
