And? All it takes is one game for a player to get injured.

The World Cup, literally the biggest international sports tournament in the world, has play-in games for borderline qualifiers. In 2018 the 5th-place team from Asia played the 4th-place team from North America for the right to make the World Cup, and the top team from Oceana played the 5th-place team from South America. He's 100% right. The season IS the play in. This is just a US thing. No big sports outside the US do this.
Also, the concept of the losers bracket![]()

Indian Premier League, the #1 cricket tournament in the world, has a play-in elimination game between the 3rd-place and 4th-place team to see who is going to get the chance to face the runner-up for a spot in the final.
Many sports (including most soccer leagues) will have play-in games as tiebreakers.

Yes, the play in games in the World Cup are for getting in the World Cup. Not the playoff of the World Cup
I'll give you that I have no idea about cricket but that's mostly because it isn't a top 5 sport in the world. You don't see me talking about Team Handball lol.
And you are wrong about most football leagues, they uses goal difference, goals scored, points won in head-to-head meetings and away goals in head-to-head meetings.

Cricket is actually the 2nd most watched sport in the world.
Being watched by India doesn't make it a top sport. Most of the world has no interest in Cricket
Its popular in the UK and all the islands colonized by the British, Australia, Arab countries, other South Asian countries, South AfricaBeing watched by India doesn't make it a top sport. Most of the world has no interest in Cricket
They play 82 games, if you can't finish top 8 then you don't deserve to be there.
I don't see the point in having teams fighting for the chance to get beaten by the 1/2 seed anyway![]()
The Mavericks are 10th overall in the league in top to bottom standings
Yet they would have to play a play-in game (or possibly 2) for a 16 team tournament.
You don’t see what’s egregious about that?
The Mavericks would be the 4 seed and have home court in the East, but they have to play a play-in tournament in the West. You don’t see what’s egregious about that?
The 13th overall team in the league in the NY Knicks don’t have to play a play-in game, but the 10th overall team in the league does. You don’t see what’s egregious about that?
You’re talking about posters not understanding the rules and complaining just to complain while ignoring the elephant in the room. The fact that you literally have a team that is in the top 3rd of the league that will have to play a play-in game to qualify for the playoffs that puts 16 out of 30 teams in is pretty astounding.
Nobody in the thread has addressed any of this. I’m very interested in hearing a compelling argument why lesser East teams should have secure playoff spots over competitive West teams that have to do gimmick tournaments
Has any other sports league been so imbalanced. The west has been dominating as long as I can remember. Ever seen lakers/sixers lakers/nets daysDallas sports get shytted on for reasons unknown to me.
NBA wants to keep those eastern eyeballs so they let them get a free pass while western squads have to battle like a WW1 trench fight.
The East/West imbalance has been an issue for about 20 years now. NBA knows what would happen if they just did 1 to 16. Probably wait until the East is consistently stronger before moving to a 1-16 playoff format.

He’s right. It was cool in the bubble but ehh now. Y’all just don’t like it because luka said it
people really saying Morant is better than luka? Do you guys even watch ball
Zion and Luka are clearly the two generational young players of this era
