My pops is 55 and battling left ventricle heart failure. He's a little overweight but not fat. But he smokes at least one pack of sigs and a six pack of budwieser every day. He found out about it 8 years ago and the doc told him he had less than a year to live if he didn't quit smoking and drinking. Obviously he didn't quit, but he didn't die either. At one point he was waiting to get on the list for a heart transplant, but they wouldn't put him on the list unless he quit smoking. Now he is not eligible for the list because his heart condition has improved.

I've talked to him about it and He said fukk it. I'm retired and I'm going out kickin it. I'm not gone change my life and be unhappy for a couple extra years. In a selfish way I'm mad at him, but he's right he should be happy, not trying to hold on to a couple extra miserable years.

:snoop: man dying from heart failure is one of the worst ways to go imo. Basically the heart gets so weak that it can barely pump blood anymore so the blood backs up into the lungs; basically causing you to suffocate slowly. Us black people gotta get our stuff together; we're dying in the 50s and 60s while whites are going strong into the 80s and 90s.

But back to the original topic losing weight and eating healthy is a great way to lower the risks but sometimes thats not enough. I knew one dude who was pretty thin, and a vegan and ran marathons that had a heart attack at 47. Sometimes that stuff is genetic.

I've always been a little on the thin side, 5'9 and around 145-150.

But high blood pressure runs in my fam so I'll probably have issues later in life regardless. Already got slightly high blood pressure even tho I'm normal weight. :sadcam:

Keep up the weight loss program.

For those who think it is a joke, sometimes, you don't die from a heart attack. You could have a small heart attack that kills part of your heart. Shows up on an EKG. You could have a full on heart attack, but someone knows CPR and resuscitates you back to life. It's all random what the outcome is. Sometimes, your heart is just weaker because a part of it died. Sometimes, half your body is paralyzed. So, you don't go down in a huge ball of fire. You end up a weakling. No more fun. Pooping your pants uncontrollably. You become dependent on other people.
