Nah, don't be silly.
If you wanna do the touristy stuff and stay in Central get a hotel in Bayswater or Paddington. Its full of hotels that are pretty cheap and its dead in the middle of central London.
Out of the places @Theraflu mentioned I'd stay in Camden cause it has the best night life, but even then, there's not those many hotels in the Camden area.
