My family told me I wouldn't survive in Philly because I'm from the suburbs, then gone ask me if I plan on visiting.

The shyt y'all normalize in the hood ain't for me.

nikka said don't make eye contact with the youth, I live near a basketball court and if some kids are walking over there, I can wave at them and not be worried :dahell:

u sound scared af breh, your folks was right
This is the thing my family doesn't understand.

There are people in America who did not grow up in violent areas so they normalize the idea of telling a person

"You can be killed for walking around here because you aren't from here"

And thinking this is normal.

This is not normal.

This is not a badge of honor.

The very fact that I would rather not put myself in an environment like that, my authenticity is questioned, yet y'all make fun of T.I. son for choosing to be in that environment.

That is exactly why suburban black kids try to be hard.

Because "the struggle" is engrained in the identity of black Americans so much so that black people who don't come from that are seen as less authentically black by black people.

Arent you going to be around your family though? Usually the neighborhood knuckleheads won’t mess with ppl visiting if they have people there. Now if you go there disrespecting things might get testy.

They know I'm not the disrespectful type.

I think when talking with people from the hood no matter how you come off there has to be a

"You don't know what it's like, you wouldn't survive, you from the suburbs" conversation just because I'm not from there.

I guess they thought I'd hear that and think "you're wrong I can make it!"

Me saying "no" is really me just proving a point making them feel dumb for thinking I'm naive.

You say it's dangerous and I know nothing about it, okay cool, I ain't going :yeshrug:

Now they wanna say "well it ain't that bad"

Well when you tryna scare your suburban cousin it was :mjtf:

You hood nikkas hear "you ain't gone make it, it ain't safe"
And see that as a challenge :laff:
I’m not a hood nikka but I’ve spent enough time in them to know it’s not that serious.

You just visiting family too, not living there.
