I've been to Phila to visit my wife's Aunt who was in the hospital. It reminded me of Baltimore for the most part. Even had the same walking dead lookiing like drug addicts roaming the streets. Visting family is not going to get you himmed up though, unless your family participates on a whole bunch of ill shyt.

my band played a few shows in philly back in the day. it was cool. i walked over to kochs deli (on locust street, not too far from 52/walnut) and got food.

after our set i was smoking weed with some crusty punk dudes on the porch. 2 blocks away on walnut somebody opened fire. philly was wild lol

I don’t blame you for not wanting to go because of how your family framed it but you’d have nothing to worry about if you did. I’ve been to Philly a few times most recently for the Roots Picnic in May. It’s just like any other city. There’s no boogey man out there waiting for you or out of towners in general. Idc where you are, you should always be aware of your surroundings so that’s nothing different and you’ll be with family.
